Redbook article

Dear All,

I am a writer whose experience with vulvar cancer is in the upcoming January edition of Redbook magazine, hitting newsstands next Tuesday, December 21st. I will also be contributing posts to their website starting on the 21st. Your stories have inspired me to write about a cancer most don't talk about. I hope this article can create more of a dialogue and awareness about this disease.

Blessings,
Darci Picoult

    Thank You
I agree more women need to know about this cancer. When I was dx with it in April 10 I was like what is that. I never heard of this cancer before. They tell us to check for everything but that. Most women who have had it including myself do not like to talk about it because of the embrassement. Some people what I have told firt question was how did you catch that or how ddi you get that? What? You just dont catch cancer.

There is also not alot of information out there about vulvar cancer either. This is the only place wehre I have found that has alot of information from women who has had it or going through it. i got alot of my questions answered here. It is a lonely cancer because there isn't alot of people who can relate to it. I am sure your article will help and touch alot of women. Becaue when you get the news about it you dont have a clue what is the next step. Not only that the emotinal side affects after surgery. They take away what really is what make you a women. Not saying anything against breat cancer but you can get inplates or something else but with this there is nothing not inplats. You are just left with the scars and if you are like me divorsed how do you explain that to your new boyfriend when do you tell them. I am only 30 years old and not sure what to do or say about this.

    I read the story
I just read the article and it moved me. Its was like all the same feelings I had when I found out that I had vulvar cancer. I was like what what is that. How in the world do I explain that to people. Most people dont even know what a vulvar is.

I was moved to tears after reading the story. Because those are the same questions I had but I had no pamphlet to guide me in dealing with this. There are no books written about this it feels like you are alone where can you go to talk about this. You feel like you lost what makes you a woman something that really makes you who you are but you have to dig deep within yourself and know that who you are is within your heart and soul.

Thank you again for your article it means more to me then you will ever know

    Thank you
Thank you for reading the article and sharing your insightful thoughts. The article and subsequent blogs have generated many amazing emails and responses from women and men. Hearing from you makes writing such an open article well worth the effort. Our journey through this cancer is a unique one emotionally, physically and sexually. But having a place to talk gives us a community and with that a strength to deal with whatever comes our way. Know you are not alone.
With affection and admiration (for all of your posts),
    Darci
