Pneumonia, sinus infections & uti

Hi all,

I do hope you all had a Merry Christmas. I consider myself quite blessed since I was diagnosed on 12/22 with pneumonia, a sinus infection and a urinary tract infection and did NOT have to be hospitalized since my white count and Leviquin were able to fight the infections. Had a follow up with my primary doc this morning...my lungs were clear!!! We had to cancel the beginning of my 3rd cycle of GEMZAR last Friday, but got the go ahead for tomorrow.

Having trouble with my retirement health benefits. It seems that I was given wrong information when I filed my papers effective 11/19/10 and now I am basically without insurance. Kind of scary since my primary doc couldn't get approval/authorization for a CT scan of my chest since I'm "inactive"! I'm fighting the powers that be right now to reinstate me immediately based on the papers I had to file before I went to the doc on the 22nd! How are you supposed to do all of this, stay stress free and get well?

Anyway, enough of the woe is me. Wishing you all a Glorious New Year filled with much hope, happiness AND, wouldn't it be loverly, NED!!!

    What a way to end the year! So many health problems with pneumonia, sinus infection and UTI. Anyone of those is bad enough, but all three. Glad the antibiotic took care of it at home.

    So sorry about your insurance issue, too. Sure hope it gets resolved, soon for you. All of this certainly adds stress to your life.

    May your 2011 be filled with hope, happiness and NED, too. In peace and caring.

    I do hope that you are feeling well...what's happening with the shingles? I hope I'm remember correctly that you were experiencing a bit of an outbreak.

    I don't know where you work but you can always go on cobra after insurance is pulled from the workplace. Are you on full term disability? I had to be somewhat agressive which was hard because of chemo brain. You need your insurance so get your papers in order; have someone help you. Then go in with your chest up and politely ask for help. Most people respond to cancer diagnosis.

    I am glad you are feeling better. I was in the ER Christmas Eve because I was seeing flashing lights. I have some vitrous bleed (which I believe is from chemo but retinal specialist says no) I also had to spend Christmas day seeing an opthmologist. They are watching me closely. I didn't even get excited going on Christmas eve. I had the attitude that I could do this new thing even on Christmas. I think we feel like we are falling apart; but my God, I think we are really strong!

    Hi Diane,

    There never does seem to be a dull moment...nothing like spending Christmas Eve in the ER and Christmas Day at a specialist's office. I also experience flashers and floaters a few months ago, went to the ER and had to have it followed up the next day with a retinal specialist. He attributed the flashers to vitreous fluid hardening and then breaking away. He also saw what he described as wrinkled tissue behind my eye, but said there was nothing to worry about for many, many years to come. He explained that both the vitreous hardening and breaking away, as well as the wrinkled tissue were issues from aging. I replied, "Oh great. It's not bad enough to have wrinkles on my face, now I need to have them behind my eye, too!"

    Thank you for your concern and suggestions regarding my insurance issue. I was a teacher for the NYC Department of Ed. Not surprisingly, one hand does not tell the other hand what is going on. My retirement had a one day turn around, i.e., I filed my papers on Nov 18 to be effective on the 19th (which is usually not the case). I was told I had until the end of January to submit all the insurance papers to assure a seamless transition. How wrong that info was! It seems upon termination of payroll (in my case Nov. 19th) all insurance is cancelled IF the papers are not processed! Well, isn't that a fine how do you do! So the papers are now filed but I waited on the phone for 175 minutes on Thursday to see if they were processed. I finally had to hang up since the office had closed! So I will continue to call AGAIN on Monday. I have been assured that all coverage will be retroactive to Nov.19th. Hopefully, that is the correct information! Dealing with a bureaucratic structure the size of NYC is never fun and takes much strength and stamina. So you are right, Diane, we feel like we are falling apart but we are really quite strong!!!
