Help dealing with divorce and cancer

Hi everyone. My name is Ginger. I am 43 years old, I have two precious children 11 and 7 and I am a first grade teacher. I am going through a divorce and am dealing with stage 4 cervical cancer. I am currently going through my 3rd round of chemo. I am feeling a little overwhelmed doing this by myself. I am scared. I was wondering if anyone out there is going through this kind of situation and how you are dealing with it without going completely crazy.

    Hi Ginger!
I just got diagnosed with at least stage 3 cervical cancer and my husband is in Afghanistan and my son is off in the Marines. My 13 year old daughter is all I have to help me right now and it has been terrible. I do not want to show the pain or fear for her but at times I just can't stop the crying. I am lucky that my son came in on emergency leave yesterday and my husband should be here tomorrow morning. They will both eventually have to go back to work so it will not be long before I am in the same place you are..scared and dealing with something totally terrifying all on my own. It is terrible that you are in the middle of a divorce for this journey..I wish you the best. If you ever want to chat I will try to be on here since I also need someone to help me stay sane who is willing to listen to the good and the bad. Fingers crossed and prying that we both pull through this ordeal.

the big D and the big C
I was diagnosed with Stage IIIC uterine cancer in February, in the midst of divorce negotiations. I talked to my soon-to-be ex and with his agreement, we pushed the divorce through quickly. I had a radical hysterectomy 4 days after the court proceedings.

My son was 22 at the time, so my situation is a little different from yours since your kids are smaller. He tried his best to be there for me, but I admit that I tried to shelter him from the more gory details and I wish now that I hadn't. Once I started being totally honest with him and crying around him and showing my vulnerability, he felt better about things.

I will tell you it is very hard without a partner. You need to learn to lean on friends and family and accept all help that is offered to you. If someone asks you how they can help, have them come do things like shovel the driveway, put up the Christmas tree, clean your toilets. The people around you NEED to have something to do. Let them do it.

I'm sorry to hear about you being alone. I feel so alone myself I have stage 3 cervical cancer I want to get surgery that wasn't an option for me. But tried to stay strong I know it's hard with two small children.
