We were air ambulanced today

Ambulance to the local airport, small jet with two nurses for a nail biting hour and a half, another ambulance ride to the VA in Richmond, and here we are. Thank God for the VA benefits. I can't imagine what kind of bills we'd be facing.

The referral for my hostel stay didn't come through. I'm staying on the leftover cot from the supply room until they figure it out. LOL I'm just too tired and too grateful to care.
Penny

P.S. (The plane was like a pack of gum with wings!!!)

    downtown digs
Oh, dear. If things don't pan out, you might want to check into the Linden Row Inn, a restored historic hotel not far from downtown with reasonable rates and nice people to take care of you. It's across the street from the main library. Good luck darlin.

    Safe and somewhat sound
Made it to the Hospital Hospitality House around 6:15 tonite. They said, here's your key, there's the TV room, there's the library, if your hungry there's the kitchen. After unpacking the measly belongings that would fit in the cargo hold of the Jet ala Wrigleys, I wandered downstairs to the Ginormous kitchen. Some blessed soul had made a HUGE dinner of carbohydrate comfort food, and I was invited to join. It was the first "homecooked" meal since Thanksgiving. They have a social worker on staff from 5-9 so I tapped into some free therapy, came upstairs, had a good cry and a shower.

Interview with the transplant team tomorrow at 9:00am.

Sounds great, right? Why do I feel so scared, homesick, and alone?

    Big (((hugs)))
It's nice to get away and go to a distant place on vacation....... BUT this is not a vacation and is a matter of life and death. It isnt exactly the way one would imagine taking a trip somewhere, even with the cooking and Hospitality House, etc. I do hope everything works out good though.

Hugs! I know this may sound
Hugs! I know this may sound crazy, but take care of yourself 1000 mg of vitamin c a day, water and eat. The flu and colds are going around. You can't take care of the hubs if you don't take care of yourself. Are any of yor family members with you?

    nope
No family here. My mother in law will come when and if they do the transplant. That's actually a good thing,we get along very well. I spent the night in the hospital due to the snow and ice, there were no shuttles running. My job is e mailing me " how long will you be gone"and the answer is I don't know. I have pretty much gathered that 3 to 6 months is going to be my minimum. There is absolutely no normal for me...not even a new normal. And my life will never go back to what it was. Its very overwhelming .

    Why the f*ck are they
Why the f*ck are they emailing you about that right now? Do you know how many weeks you have for family leave? They should be emailing you asking how your husband is doing and wishing you well. OMG there goes my bluntness again!

I'm ignoring them. I can't very well tell them right now that I'm probably not going to be back before Spring. Our HR director is a b***h, so it's not unexpected. Not much they can do since I'm in VA and they're in FL. She probably wants to know because there's a blank spot in one of her stupid forms and that's unacceptable in her tiny little pea sized brain.

    He's more important!
    Penny,
What the heck is wrong with the place where you work. Don't they realize what you're going through and how important your husband is?? Hey you can always get another job, but he definitely comes first now.
Glad you got into that place & had a good meal. Have you met any other wife who might be there with her husband? Would be so good to have someone to talk to.
How is your hubby doing since you got there?
I lost my husband in March and miss him so much. So please try to be strong and tell him how much you love him.
Wish you had someone there with you, cause it's hard going through serious stuff alone. Don't know where I'd be today if it wasn't for my family & friends. If I could I'd come there to be with you, but I'm too far away.
YOu can send me a private message if you want & we can talk. Take care. "Carole"

    Hey Penny
Thanks for the update! You are just 2 hours from me now that you are in Richmond, Va. Yes, praise the Lord for the VA and all of the benefits. And praise the Lord for our military. I am sure that cot will soon turn into a nioe bed. Hang in there. God bless you all and keep us posted.
