i am new here. i had a tumor just inside my rectum and had cancer meds and radiation then surgery. this was in 2007. i also had a bag for 8 months in 2008 which was reversed. my question is that my bowl movements are not what i call normal. i go several times and they are in small pieces. then i can go and sometimes it will be normal but can last up to an hour. then it becomes liquid. i end up taking pills to stop it. does anyone know if this is a lifetime occurance? is there any type of diet that could help? i work nites and sometimes i have trouble during the day to get my system regulated so i can go out. also it seems i can eat anything. thank you

    Bowel Movements
I have problems with my movements. Mine will be small in size as well, but I have scar tissue that seems to get in the way. Other times I go and go and go, then yes, I will get very loose bowels. I take Miralax as needed at night so that my movements stay a little more regulated.

You might want to try a fiber supplement, such as Metamucil, which will help bulk up your stools. Drinking plenty of water is crucial as well. Tweaking your diet to get the right amount of fiber can be tricky, so you just have to experiment. Keep track of what you eat and what effects you get afterwards. That way you know what foods work and what ones don't. I think we all have some similar issues after this treatment. I am over 2 years out now and deal with multiple BM's during the day, which are sometimes "marbles." I am beginning to realize that this will probably be the case for me the rest of my life, but it's something I can live with. I wish you the best.

    Agree with others
I agree with the others this seems to be an area that is frustrating but one that we deal with after the treatments. I agree with the fiber intake, but I found that sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't. I again say the best thing I have found is the Miralax. That regulated me to where I know exactly when I will have a movement, I don't struggle with the hard stools anymore, and then if I eat the foods I have found to bother me with looser movements, I just cut out the miralax for a day or two. I was told right from the get go this would be my greatest hurdle, and that fresh fruits and vegetables would be my enemy, but since I started the miralax these foods don't even bother me as much as they use to.
