Cancer treatment and successful mistakes

My now wife was diagnosed with Hodgkins in Late 1985. Thank God she is still healthy and cancer free after 25 years. She was 19 I was 26 and still in college. They built the radiation blocks wrong, and basically fried her ovaries. The result? Menopause at 19. Many people said: "Sue the Doctors!" We did not subscribe to this point of view. (they saved her life!!!) Kids? They are a blessing IF you can have them. I thank God every day for her survival. I knew when I married her that we would probably not be able to have children, and she would not marry me until the doctors gave her a clean bill of health. After 25+ years together, I can honestly say I married my best friend. We have certain issues in our love life due to the loss of natural hormones, but I would NEVER trade what we have. She is still the light of my life, and an inspiration to me. The support of a spouse/fiancee' is so important in the recovery process!!!!! My advice to all, stand by your loved one. It's so worth the risk. The divorce rate is high in these situations. Hurt, Blame, Confusion, Selfishness, lose it! The rewards of a great relatioship are on your horizon!

Blessed Beyond Belief,

    Love story
    Hi,
What a beautiful love story. Congratulations on a long life together.
I will celebrate my 36th wedding anniversary tomorrow. My husband has been there through all the cancer and health issues, and the tough times because of it. He is my treasure.
    Peaceful healing

What a beautiful story as we relect on reasons we're thankful this week as we celebrate our blessings on Thanksgiving Day. I count my hubby caregiver among the top as well - 24 married years and he's here through the best and the worst - not sure how you survive without such a person. Good luck for many more years of happiness and good health - Fran

    I agree
My husband and I have been married 40 years and I always loved him but after going through treatment and seeing how much he loved and cared for me, I am soooo blessed.
