My wife had a ct scan today. This was her first since starting chemo after being diagnosed on Septemeber 10th with stage iv adenocarcinoma with mets to spine.

She has taken two rounds of taxol, carboplatin, avastin. She also receives weekly treatments of cetuximab as part of a study. She has received five doses of cetuximab.

We thought things were going well because her coughing and slight wheezing has disappeared. She takes NO meds for any of those while she was taking four meds for cough and wheezing right after she was first diagnosed.

SO...... after the ct this morning, we went to the onc and she said the tumor has shrunk significantly. I did some calcuating and came up with roughly a 60-75 percent reduction in volume.

This has been the best day since September 10th. I know that nothing is forever, and we may at some time get bad news again, but TODAY, it is good news.

I hope my wife can have the same results as yours. My wife will begin radiation treatment to her brain the next two weeks, and afterwards start chemo for the next 3 - 4 months.

    Be Thankful!
    Hi,
This is such good news about your wife! You really have something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. Mine will be spent with my kids & grandchildren. It'll be our first one without my hubby, their dad & papa. It's going to be really hard without him. But I thank God every day that he gave us 3 beautiful kids and 2 wonderful daughter-in-laws and 3 beautiful grandsons. Tom (my hubby) loved red wine & I didn't, but I'm going to drink a glass in his memory that day. Heck, maybe I'll have two.
Have a great Thanksgiving & enjoy the time with your wife. "Carole"

    thanks
Thank you. Yes, I do have somthing to be thankful this Thanksgiving... and my wife insists on keeping with our family tradition of having Thanksgiving at our home and she will do most of the cooking.

I know this will be tough for you without your husband. This will be the first for me without my mother who passed away July 21... the last day I saw her was on my youngest's bday.

Quit drinking many years ago, but have one occasionally.... Ill have one for Tom and my mother. :) Any more than that, I risk waking up naked and in another city. :)

We Seinfeld fans know the shrink factor wasn't good for George Costanza, but for a cancer survivor it's a godsend!! I wish your wife the best, with much more shrink to come!! YAY!!

    It's funny you say that....
As soon as we found out, I posted on facebook... "my wife's tumor is shrinking like a penis in cold water. Remember Seinfeld." I then attached a video clip. So its funny you say it.

    She loved it....
I told her she could not take it, because she would have. She's pretty quick witted with a great sense of humor, but the sexual humor makes her laugh like a seventeen year old... It creates a visual everybody, even the non-initiated can understand!

Great news Paul. I know exactly how you feel. After 4 chemo sessions my wife's ct last week showed a reduction of 50% and we felt like the weight of the world slid off of our shoulders. She is going to start a phase two clinical study regime today that our doctor recommended her for. It is a new maintenance treatment that looks promising. I hope you keep us posted on your wife's progress. There is hope for us.
