Deer season is the best damn time to clear your head

I did not get a deer yet. Next season I am moving my damn deer stand. However, this has been a great weekend with my sons and grandsons. The dump bed of the Kubota is well stained with deer blood. The highlight so far was the 13 year old grandson getting his deer. The second place winner was him puking while gutting it.

The time in the deer stand gave me much peace in sorting out all the shock of this week.

First off my Rad Onc was the one that went over my CT of the brain tumor with me. If it was all over but the shouting, she would have told me. She is a realist and knows I am as well. The big thing will be the meeting with the surgeon tomorrow afternoon. That gives me time to hunt in the morning, gut the deer, hang it in the barn and still drive to STL.

I am leaning to the Cyberknife as Idlehunters and others have suggested. I did post a photo on my expressions page of the tumor.

    Have you thought of exchanging the deer for medical services? I just figured that way you don't have to gut and hang it ... just throw it on the roof or in the truck and head out to the surgeon's. Save a little time and cut down medical expenses.

    Or ... they might think the brain tumor is worse than it really is ... nevermind.

    A question Kerry
    Did your Doctor tell you that the tumor is definitely cancer? Reason I ask, my Mom had a tumor for years, benign menengioma (sp?) and they left it in there and just kept a watch on it thru MRI's every year. It certainly is not what she died from. Might be wishful thinking on my part here...but did your doctor say that was a cancerous tumor?

    Well, whatever it is I am hoping and praying that it can be taken care of so you can get back to thinning out the deer population.

    Sounds like the fellas in your family are having a good time. Glad that your time out in the stand gave you some peace.

    Good luck with the hunting in the morning and safe travels to STL in the afternoon.

    Deer Hunting Season
    Ah my dad loved to go deer hunting and still does. Actually we were driving tonight and two cars stopped in front of us in the middle of the road and it was a deer that had passed from one side to the other. When we drove by the deer was in the brush looking towards the road and after passing down the road, two more deer crossed with cars coming both ways. This is just really usual to see in our city, but we do have lots of woods around us. Just don't see a lot of deer, just the damage they do of eating our gardens when we go to bed LOL. Glad that your grandson got his deer but sorry he got sick. Hey you have to learn somehow. Kerry, I'm praying for you daily and hope that you get the news you want about the surgery and recovery. You are a wonderful, dear person and love your posts. Now go out there and get that deer :) I love venison.

    Hey Kerry: You know how to skin a deer?
    Maybe you can make some of us custom-made bag-holders (hiders) out of deerskin? Might even make a profit out of it.......Now lets attack with vengence those cells in the brain.....steve

    Sharing Deer story from my Mom
    Kerry, I just have to copy and paste an email I got from my Momma this past Sunday. I know you will appreciate it. Let me start by saying growing up my Mother was very feminine (pearls and all the Mrs. Clever sort) She raised 7 children so was pretty busy indoors. Never thought a thing about hunting as my Dad was not a hunter either. Well my parents divorced when I was a senior in high school and a few years later she re-married a man from Missouri that is a very big hunter. Now my Momma hunts not only deer but turkey and she hunts whenever she can (meaning don't come visit me during hunting season!) She is 74 years old, but you would never know it. Here is here email

    Hi everyone!!! Went out after church and lunch this afternoon to hunt after seeing not a single deer yesterday.(first day of deer season). I was on my way down to the branch/brook to a place I sit from year to year and before I got there , about 2: 45, i saw a doe coming in my direction with me a little way ahead and in front on it. Not far behind the pretty little girl, was a buck with something on his mind. I slowly turned around , dropped my plastic seat and blanket, raised my Thirty ought Six, heavy rifle ,and took aim and shot. The deer jumped straight up and took off running with his tail down. good sign, that tail down, if it was up, bad sign. I followed its blood trail until I saw it lying-dead. I was standing, did a off hand shot , so I am just a little pleased with myself.Steve showed up just in time to clean or dress it and help clarence drag it up to the lodge for which I was most happy. The deer was big and heavy. Had a nice tall rack which parted at the top.May send a picture later but it is dark out in the shop where it is hanging. Not bad for a 74 year old grandmother . We were getting ready to leave, was in the jeep, going around the lodge and saw another deer just within shot , If clarence has stayed another few minutes and hunted, we might would have had that one. Enough work for one day Though.This is my progress report. Mama Lora

    First of all let me tell you that I wish you good luck with the surgeon and am praying that this is just a bump in the road for you.

    The story about your grandson getting sick while he gutted the deer reminded me of the first time my father brought home a deer in the back of the truck. I was so excited to see it but as soon as I did I started crying and ran inside the house. Believe me I got used to it soon enough
