Bone Cancer after Hodkins???

Hi all, I just finished my treatment for Hodkins 2weeks and 2days ago. I had 6 cycles of ABVD and 3 weeks of radiation. The tumor in my chest was originally almost 11 inches wide. 2 days after my last radiation treatment I began experiencing bone pain in my pelvis and femur in my left side. The pain has since gotten so bad that I feel crippled, I cannot sleep, walk, bend or turn without screaming in pain. The pain is similiar to the pain experienced with having the bone marrow biopsy. Ive read a few articles about bone cancer being a secondary , has anyone else been through this?? I had a CT done yesterday and I have a PET scheduled for November 22nd. Any information would be a blessing, I have 4 young children and this has been a long and bumpy road. Thanks and God Bless to all, Tracie

I'm so sorry you hurt. I had rads to my hip and the bone was weakened by it. I ended up with an insufficiency fracture and I experienced excruciating pain when my hip broke. Talk to your doc about this possibility. Mine healed, but it took about 4 months.

    Bone cancer...
I also had 6 cycles of ABVD and finished in mid August of this year. I had severe bone and joint pain all over for quite awhile. I took tons of ibuprofen. I was worried it could be something else. It has started getting better. I had a PET scan yesterday and am going in for the results in about an hour. It is just routine follow up scan. I was stage 4. I am nervous but trying to be positive. I hope your scans are negative. I have 2 young children too. I will pray for you.

    So sorry
    Hi Tracie,
I have not been through this, and don't have any information to help you out with. I would imagine once you get the results from the CT and PET scan, your doctor will decide if a bone biopsy would be the next course to take. Are you able to take anything for the pain while you are waiting for further DX? I'm so sorry you are going through this especially with having 4 little ones to tend too. My heart goes out to you and I'll keep you in my prayers and be thinking good positive thoughts that bone cancer is "not" a secondary in your case. All my love...Sue (FNHL-2-3A-6/10)

    Thanks for all the replies
Thanks everyone, I ended up in the emergency room last night in complete pain, I was given a shot of morphine which helped INCREDIBLY, then they sent me home with some percocet and vicoden until they figure out whats wrong, this is very frustrating. The pain is so intense it really has me worried. God Bless to all.

    Sorry..
    Hi Tracie,
It's a relief to hear the CT scan showed arthritis and not cancer, but I'm so sorry about the pain your having. I've heard celebrex works good for arthritis pain. Maybe as you continue to heal, alot of this pain will subside. I will keep good thoughts for you and once you get the PET scan done on the 22nd and get the results back, you will know more. Take care, and let us know how your feeling as you go through the healing process.
    Love...Sue (FNHL-2-3A-6/10)

    Pain
Tracie, My largest tumor was wrapped around and into my spine and spinal canal. The tumor is gone but it has left me with a lot of discomfort and some difficulty walking up stairs. I am still taking Morphine SR twice daily, the prescription is written by my oncologist. You shouldn't be in pain. Please speak with your doctors and see who will help you out. You've got those little ones to take care of and love! I will continue to pray for you. Kellie

    Thank you!!
I'm actually scheduled to see a neurologist for my carpal tunnel and my PCM is working on getting me a referral for an orthopedic dr. So hopefully it wont be to long before they can figure out what to do with me. The pain has just today gotten manageable, but I can still only walk with the help of my cane :(

    Well
I'm glad it's not cancer too honey. Sorry you are in so much pain. Hopefully they can figure something out very soon to make things manageable. You are way too young for arthritis.

    Take care,
    Beth

No rest for me!! Seems like even the pain meds can only go so far. It never fails that once the arthritis starts acting up I always wake up about 2 am unable to sleep. Like now :( I would love to have a pain killer to last all night, if they make one, I need it!! Oh well, thanks and God Bless!

    Arthritic pain and sleep
Yes, Tracie - I remember when I noticed my very first symptom of Hodgkins, I got whole body of nerve/muscle pain at night and learned that if I get at least 6 hours of sleep, I got lucky. Well, now, I only got neuropathy in my hands and feet and migraines that I never had before so I saw neurologist and he ordered me to take Topomax and that helped me mostly. I also have herniated discs in my upper and lower back and been seeing a wonderful chiropractic/osteopathic for years for treatment. So I hope that you could find at least a specialist that could assist you in some way.

Hope you feel better and keep me posted,

    Liz
