Struggling with questions and 2 cancers at the same time

Roughly 3 weeks ago I found out that I have a large cancerous tumor at the opening to my cervix. The gynecological oncologist says that it is uterine cancer and I was scheduled for a hysterectomy and removal of my ovaries and tubes. I had a CT scan to study the tumor and at that time they found a mass in my right kidney. I saw the urologist earlier this week and it is kidney cancer. I now will have my kidney removed with the other parts. Both doctors say that the 2 cancers are unrelated and it would be extremely rare for either cancer to spread to the other location. How can I have two different cancers in my body at the same time? How common is that?

    Get the surgery behind you
Unfortunately some of us get 2 separate cancers some of which are related and some not. My Doctor checks me each year for prostate cancer and advises that if I ever get it that it is not related to my earier kidney Cancer. Kidney cancer is not very popular, being only 3% of all cancers so having an unrelated cancer to it is not very common. I have read in some of the posts here that woman who had brest cancer have developed unrelated kidney cancer at the same time or years later.

    Thanks
    I'm trying to remain

    Thanks

I'm trying to remain positive, it was just such a shock to hear about the kidney cancer too. The surgery scares me but At least I'll know more about what I have to deal with.

    What a heavy load
Hi Archgirl. I am so sorry to hear of your two diagnosis at the saem time. Unfortunately you hear this now and again and what seems to happen, according to those with kidney cancers, kidney cancer alone can have no symptoms and is usually found when they are looking into something else. Sounds like that might have happened with you too.

I am in the position of things appearing in symptoms no one can explain centering around my kidneys/adrenal glands - something isn't right and tests are coming back wonky but not enough to pinpoint yet. Also at the same time oncologists are monitoring a thickening of my uterus so scheduled for exploratory surgery at the end of the year or beginning of the next. I fear two cancers at one time as well and now I live alone where the first cancer I had, non hodgkins lymphoma, I was married and had support.

I hope that you have a good support system around you to help you through and you have this site as well with so many supportive people as I am sure you have found already.

I wish you all the best in your treatments, one stop at a time remember although I know that is a hard thing to do. I hope you have your faith, couldn't have got through things without mine.

Blessings to you and yours. Bluerose

    Bluerose,
    I'm sorry to hear

    Bluerose,

I'm sorry to hear about your ongoing problems. I hope that they can determine the cause and treat it successfully. Thank you for your kind words. It's nice to know I'm not alone. The waiting is the hardest part but I hope that things will turn out ok.
