I am over 100 miles away from "home" sitting in a hotel becaue I am receiving my radioactive iodine treatment on Weds. I thought I'd be okay however, I am feeling a little alone. My family is all at home. My 3 year old son has a terrible case of tonsilitis and I had to leave him. I am really scared about the iodine treatment and having to be away from everyone. It's just really nerve racking.. Thank for your time!

    You will be fine
I am sorry that you are going through part of your treatment on your own but I'm sure you will be fine. I don't know if you are spiritual or not but if you are then you know that you are never truly alone. I prayed alot through my treatment periods and had long talks with the Big Guy and it helped me immensely. We, on this site, are also with you and I am glad you found us, feel free to chat with us all on the discussion board as you have done here or come into the chatroom on this site if you want immediate feedback. The people in chat I'm sure will be happy to speak with you about your fears.

If you want to post a question on the iodine treatments I'm sure someone will answer you and can talk with you about their experiences with it too. However remember that everyone is different as to how they will handle treatments.

The hospital is only 100 miles from your home so if you really need your family I'm sure they can get there without too much trouble, it's not that far. Some people have to fly half way around the world to get treatments they choose so you are lucky to be that close if need be. I'm sure all will go well and you will be back home with your family very soon.

Cancer treatment can be an settling thing even with people we love near I know but know that you do have support at home and from this site. Hope that helps a little. I am a 22 year survivor of non hodgkins lymphoma so I know your lonely feeling. I spent 2 months in hospital and even though my husband visited daily I still felt alone alot of the time. Cancer does that to you sometimes, it's very personal. You will be fine though. write whenever you feel you need to. We are always around.

    Blessings, Bluerose

    All alone?
    Hi,
I'm so sorry you have to go through this all alone. Isn't there anyone who could be there with you? I was a caregiver for my husband who died 7 months ago yesterday. It's not an easy job, but I never would've left him go anywhere for treatment alone. Try & be strong and soon you'll be back home. Talk to us cause we're always willing to listen. This site is great and I feel like we're like a big family. Even though I don't have my husbby anymore, I come on this site many times during the day cause it's so comforting. Take Care! "Carole '

    Never alone
You are definitely not alone unless you choose to be! There are people here who are with you anytime you want to touch base.

And, I agree - God has you in the palms of His hands and will never let you go. Just talk to Him any time you feel lonely.

I am sorry you had to leave your three year old when he was sick. That must have been very difficult for you. Hope he is feeling much better by the time you get home - and not contagious!

    Hugs!

    Not Alone
You are not alone. We are here. Also, I am sure your family is thinking about you and is with you in spirit. I am sure that it is very hard to do this without the physical support of family, but with today's wonderful forms of communication you can keep in touch. You might want to start a journal on your computer. Send messages to your son, or call home. Talk to the medical people around you. You might want to see if the facility where you will get your treatment has a social worker who will give you some support. My thought are with you. Hang in there. That little boy will be waiting for you at home. Fay

    thank you all
Thank you all. I do have support at home, but it's just hard to be away. I have never been away from them very long so this too is a new experience for me on top of getting the iodine. It will be better just a little overwhelming
