    answer
I start drawing in November, due to my cancer was listed and qualifying threw SS dissabilities of Cancer, I claimed full, but I am told I can work some, a 1000.00 a month was what I was told, cleared, check with with Social Worker, I have a great one that follows threw. The thing that burns me was i had to wait 5 months and get no back pay, It stressed me out. SweetBlood is another one to ask if you can get a hold of her, she's a sharp cookie on this, and is listed in her alot...hope it helps. Dennis

    about this question
Thanks Dennis for your reply I have been talking to my manager and we have came to agreement that I can work 2 days a week part time due to the difficultly of speaking due to the dry mouth and numbness of my fingers due to the treatments I received because at my job I am on the phone for 6 hours and as for my job I due a tech support for a ISP. My cancer was also listed under the social security site and I was approved for 794 a month but I wont get that 794 intill this dec. Should I contact my local social security office and ask about this?

    update on this question.
Today I called up my local social security office and asked them about this and they told me that I can still work and receive my full disability starting in dec. They told me that I cant make more then 700 dollars a month and if I do they would have to re-look at it recalculate the benefits. Which as of right now I am only part time and planning on working 12 hours so I am safe for now.

Good deal. Glad you got that
Good deal. Glad you got that straightened out. I read that page on the link I sent you and thought to myself, I would need to call some one. Seems a bit confusing and I would want to check.

    How long?
How long did it take to get an answer from SS. I have applied now for the third time and have been turned down each time. I was told it could take 5 years total.

    Three times and 5 years?
Yikes. Not sure when the last time you applied was, but I know that HNC falls under the compassionate allowance. I didn't apply by myself. My disability insurance people were the ones who encouraged me to apply and they have a company that they use that did almost everything for me, free of charge. I assume because Unuum then doesn't need to keep paying me the amount I get from SS it saves them a bundle.
I don't even think It took me a month to get approved.

Maybe you might want to get an attorney who specializes in SSD. My step mom was turned down once and she got an attorney and then was approved. Her back looks like a cork screw. :(

how long it took me to get approved
@ fisrpotpe it only took me 1 1/2 months to get approved because my cancer was under the compassionate allowance as NPC. Also fisrpotpe what kind of cancer you have? if you want to see if your cancer is under compassionate allowance you can go to: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/compassionateallowances/conditions.htm

you also got to submit all your medical records to SS.

    Just starting
I am just starting to file for S.S. benefits. Seems like it will be a job in itself. Any words of advice?

    about filling
James I did all my filling online on the SS gov site and with 48 hours I got a call from my local ss office and they did a phone interview and verified some information then after that just wait intill your doctors send in your medical records to the regional ss office in your state. Then you will get a other phone call from your local ss office to tell you if you been approved or been denied but most of the time you should be approved for benefits. Also if your married you have to include your wifes information also.

By the way I am only 25 if anybody wanted to know.

    Online
I applied online for my husband, it was very easy and I got a call within a couple of days. About 6 weeks later a check arrived in the mail for 3 months "back pay" - not sure how they determine when the disability starts. He got his first "regular" check this week. I don't think he will need it long, as long as his pet scan comes out ok in a couple of months - keeping fingers crossed and prayers said.

I also think part of the reason it may take longer for some than others is that they contact your doctors and some docs respond sooner than others probably.

    SS Benefits
I applied on line also. Received a call for a phone information and they set up an appt with the local SS office. I went to see them on designated date and time. I took with me all my medical records. After that visit, I heard from the SS office within one month that I had been approved and first check will be in January. Said it takes 5 month to recive check. There was no mention of back pay. FYI I keep copies of all my medical records, including pet scans, dr. visits, and surgery notes. I have found this to be a very important part of the process for many reasons, etc: SS filing, 2nd & 3rd opinions. I just take records with me and then there is no lag waiting on doctors office to send records. Dont allow doctors or hospitals, lab, or pet scans to tell you they dont give you your records. The law requires they give your your records. Hope this helps everyone.

Deb and Sweet are on it
Check threw your Social Wokrer at the SS Office, i pulled 2 of the doctors files out of the 5 and this helped alot, i heard within 3 weeks of an approval, but i get no payback for the 5 month waiting? Getting my last Cancer Doctors to fill out paper work was 3 weeks alone, which was very frustrating. Dennis

    Good for all of you
I am happy for all of you to get SS so fast. I thank you all for the information you have shared for so many.

I have SCC and now 14 years survived with several new problems over the last 2 plus years. I now am not able to work.

I also have Unuimn for insurance and they have worked with me to apply. My guess is the SS person is just going to fight with the insurance company as my SS would be returned to the insurance company. The main reason I would like SS is for the insurance, I pay now almost 1100 per month and that is a huge hit. If i get SS then I can purchase a addition writer and have the same coverage for just approx. 200 per month.

    Thanks for all the responses.

    just need to be patient.
