Out of surgery and at home

Hope this reaches all in good spirits.

I had my surgery this past Friday (Oct 15). When checking in I was fine, when I went to the pre-op room that is when I started to cry. I started to cry because I was nervous and the pain afterwards. When on the operating table they asked if I had any questions and I asked what time it was 11:38am. I woke up about 5pm. I had the da Vanici (spelling) surgery. Well they could not pull my uterus out of my vagina so they had to make a 5 inch incesion above my belly button to remove my uterus.

I was home Saturday by 5pm. I still am in pain but the meds help some but I don't want to take them till I have a bowel movement so I am taking a stool softner. Yesterday I actually ate something. Friday and Saturday all I could eat was maybe a apple sauce fruit cup, 2 chips and maybe jello through out the day.

Now that the surgery is all over, I have all new questions

- Will I still have to get a yearly pap?
- So am I in menopause?
- If so what can I do to stop symtoms?

I know these and other questions will be answered but if anyone has any insight on what I possibly should expect that would be great.

Again, I hope this message reached everyone in good spirits. I know I am considering everything.

    Autumn,
    I am glad you are

    Autumn,

I am glad you are out of the surgery and hope you feel better each day. I had the admonimal hysterectomy and it will take a good six months for all the muscles to heal. That is not to say you won't be moving out and about, but just be careful lifting or doing sit ups. I ended up with a hernia because I felt good and started to exercise too quickly. (a month later). You may have pings of pain here and there over the next six months as your insides are healing.

Yes, you will still need to get a yearly PAP smear. They may even require one every six months (I had that). Did they remove your ovaries too? I had a total hysterectomy. I would get hot flashes about 5:30 a.m. or whenever I felt stress. I was 45 years old when I had my hysterectomy. I was on lupron for six months prior to that so I had already stopped menstrating. Stress really seems to bring on the hot flashes, but if it feel one coming on, try to relax. Although with the first one you may feel anxious.

The best way to get normal bowel function back is a lot of walking and drinking water.

Did they do a staging? Do you need any type of treatment?

My best to you for a speeding recovery.

    So glad everything went well.
Yes, you are still going to have paps. I see my doc every three months and he does a rectal and vagina exam and a pap also I do blood work before I see him. You will have to see you Doc soon and he will tell you about your stage and grade, be sure to take someone with you, also have a pen and a pad so you can write every thing down. As a matter of fact, write your questions down before you see your Doc. it would be so much easier. The Docs do not tell you anything unless you ask them. Find out about your stage, grade and if you have to have further treatment. Please relax at home and do not try to do too much now. I am sorry you had the incision. The da vinci is really easy. You will soon recover if you do not push yourself too much. Now that you are not working Just enjoy it. I also know it is easy for me to say this, but please you will get past this!!! Stay well and take care of yourself. Hope to hear from you soon. June
