So, I've been dealing with a lot of pain lately and it's finally gotten to a point where SOMETHING has to be done! I moved recently to live with my twin brother and his family, as it's getting harder to deal with stuff on my own. It definitely has helped tremendously having them around and not having to worry about where my next meal was going to come from (frozen or fast food? ick!) I've been eating much better, and my brother is making sure attention is paid to things that need to be addressed with my health (yea, my MO of ignoring it and hoping it goes away just wasn't working out so well!) So, I got a prescription for a new pain med, one that's supposed to work on the nerves in the rectal area, and I'm hoping that is going to help with my pain. I take it at night, so tonight will be my first chance to see if I get more relief. I'm scheduled for a scope on the first; hopefully this will reveal what's causing my pain and we can do something to fix it. I would appreciate prayers that we will be able to find what's causing my problems and can find a solution to give me some relief! My gastro mentioned all kinds of things that COULD be causing my pain, mostly scar tissue and tumor growth, most likely a combo of these. Scans still show active growth in the lymph nodes in my peritoneum and retroperitoneum and it could be that they're pressing against the rectum, but it could also be that scar tissue from the cytoreductive procedure I had done in 2009 along with the associated infections has wrapped itself around the intestinal tract and is causing the pain. The scope will tell us whether the problem is on the inside of the intestinal tract or the outside. If it's the outside, I'll have to speak with a surgeon to see what can be done. Any thoughts out there?

    Dear Mary,

I sure do hope that the new meds give you relief from the pain and that the scan will provide needed info on how to get you pain free with minimal treatment.

    thank you
For all your comments! The pain pill was a big disappointment; I couldn't really tell any difference, although I did sleep better (perhaps that means my pain was managed better, it usually wakes me up more than a few times a night). I will see how tonight goes, maybe I will decide it is worth it. Yes, Mags, my scope is scheduled the 1st of November, 2 weeks away. It hardly seems that long since I have been dealing with this for a while; I guess as long as I have pain meds, the time will go by soon enough :(. Will let you guys know of any new info, thanks again!

    Glad to hear
I'm glad to hear you've moved where you have the help you need. Eating better and having some stress reduced can only help! I hope you get answers to your pain issues soon so you can address the situation and get that under control.

Wish the pain pills did the trick! Did you have HIPEC in 2009? I did and now I've got tumors in the same general area that you are talking about, no pain though. I've had tugging, is the best word, on the left side as gas passes through my colon, but no pain since my surgery last year that is likely cause by scar tissue. I hope your colonoscopy is clear and they can get to what's happening. Traci

    Mary,
I am happy to hear that you are with family. Wonderful that you don't have to worry about meals and that you have family around. Ahh that you are in so much pain. I was hoping the pill would knock you out and allow you to sleep soundly through the night. I will keep you in my prayers for the 1st. I hope the scope shows what is causing the pain and most importantly helps them know how they can attack the pain.

    Aloha,
    Kathleen

yes, I had HIPEC in 2009
which is the procedure that went so bad with so much infection, leaving lots and lots of adhesions. That's why we figure it's probably scar tissue, but who knows. I'm actually NOT hoping for a clear colonoscopy, I'm hoping they find something they can fix. The other option's going to be finding someone willing to go into the abdomen/pelvis with an already heavy adhesion burden to find out what the problem is :(. I guess not knowing is the worst ... no, I think the constant pain is the worst! :)

    UGH Mary
You sound a bit discouraged. I'm sorry that the pain pills didn't work out for you. They think that adhesions might be the culprit?
