I make homemade quilts by hand. I started when I was about 12 years old, my mom taught me how to do them. I have made 6 of them so far. I also cross stitch, but have run out of room for them.
My dad's hobby is making furniture. He has made 20 pieces of furniture for my hourse and many other things for me when I was little.

I am always cold so maybe I can get you to make one of those quilts for me. Dads pastime in making furniture is also a key in keeping his mind well and body moving. I am 54 and some of my parts after treatment start to get a little sticky at times.

Anything outdoors, my thoughts what a better place to have a church service than in the middle of gods country. Music, music, music in that order. Not really a hobby, a way of living, I started out on guitar at age twelve in England, I have been at it ever since with some minor successes. Have played with, recorded with, opened up for the biggest British bands of my era (sixties, seventies and 80s). Whereas I have hung it up now, I follow things and artists as they blossom. Steve Marriott's kids, for those going who? he was the lead singer with Humble Pie. His kids are doing great, his Toby out of Atlanta and his daughter Mollie in the UK. So yeah, I guess my hobby now is talent spotting. Denis0 -

Unfortunately most of my hobbies are pretty intense physical and "on hold" for now:
triathlons - swimming, biking & running
catamaran sailing
windsurfing
mountain biking
skydiving
SCUBA diving
But I still have my family hobbies. I've been playing a bunch of Guitar Hero with my 9-yr-old daughter and losing horribly on the Wii to my 6-yr-old son who is scary-good at Mario Kart.
And I have my "geek" hobbies. In the thread "Who else gets 'death support responses'?" I said I was the geek-king. Well (and this is for 'sweetblood22') I'm such the geek-king... I now have a little more time to work on my latest robot. Yes, I build robots for fun! What kind of robots? Well, to me, the best kind of robot is the funny kind, which is the kind that will do the most inane task you can possibly think of. So the latest one senses when the toilet paper is out and automatically change the roll for you.

Let me know when you are ready for Scuba again we can go down to Honduras I know a great place called Utila, some of the best diving you will ever do0 -

Great post, myself, I enjoy Genealogy. It has led me to several trips to other countries to visit cousins that I found.
Each person is a book as well. I remember working with a guy many years ago. He always acted inmature for his age and I along with many of my co-workers had nicknamed him Goofy like the Disney character. He was big and clumsy as well. One day he over heard me state that I wanted to tile my kitchen. He said he would help and show me how to do it. I thought, right, he has a rough time at work, what will this look like with him helping.
He invited me over to his house and to meet his wife, have coffee and see what his handy worked at home looked like. Turns out his father was a tile layer and he had helped his dad for years. He did beautiful work and I said yes, I could use your help. But that wasn't the kicker. While walking around his house, I noticed these beautiful paintings on the walls and asked where they bought them. His wife said, we didn't buy them, Al painted them. I about fell over. So, I learned a valueable lesson that day. Do not judge a book by it's cover. He ended up helping do my kitchen, but to my surprise, he had painted me a beautiful picture of an old Sail boat on the high seas and framed it with stained drift wood. Amazing.

Well said and so true for me as well, especially the part about not doing enough of it. I used to sing well enough to be invited on stage with local bands, but since surgeries to the tongue, throat, and lungs, that aspect of my 'hobby' (I would probably call it a passion, instead) has taken a hit.

Mick all the best to you and Joe, I too love music but had to give it up when I lost the tip of my middle finger. Sometimes at night I still get the old girl out of the case and strum and few cords, I can still get lost in the pure melody of a few strings0 -

My hobby is creating a home. I have been creating hominess since I was a teen with my bedroom being my first space. I love sitting in a room and sensing what will color the walls and fill the spaces. I love brousing catalogs and home stores for just the right piece. Along with homemaking comes cooking and baking. I make a mean apple pie, chocolate chip cookies, banana bread, homemade baked beans. I was raised in Pennsylvania Dutch Country so that has been a very strong influence. My home gives me peace.0 -

Some of you may have read some of my hobbies on the other thread. I am just feeling well enough to pick my hobbies back up. So I love to star gaze. I have three telescopes. I used to sing second soprano in two choirs. I have gone back to rehearsal for one of them, The West Branch Chorale, but my voice has taken a beating and my mouth is so dry I am not having much luck trying to sing. I also used to do mixed media art. I had a few pieces published in magazines and I did get a couple of my rubber stamp art materials out of my storage shed. I also did scrapbooking. My problem is very limited space. Trying to get an area to work on some rubber stamp art. Love to read. Got a couple of sci fi fantasy books and Ancient Alien theory books to read. Love fashion. Just read two books on style. I am also working on sewing a few new skirts and bags for my Renaissance Faire costumes. It's a challenge cause I don't know how to sew. I am doing it by hand and making it up as I go. So far so good.
Another hobby was cooking. Which I am getting back to now too. Eating and cooking is taking up like six hrs of my day. I'm not complaining I am thrilled to be eating!
Also love books and programs on Medieval History, Renaissance, Egyptology, ancient cites like the pyramids, ankgor wat, Stone Henge etc, and Gordon Ramsay.

For me, it's hunting. It's probably not quite accurate to call it a hobby, because it's a lot more serious than stamp collecting or scrapbooking. For me, hunting is a way to put organic, hormone-free meat on the table, not to mention the opportunity to get out into the woods and enjoy God's creation.
My rads and chemo went from August through early October of 2008. I made it a personal goal that I would survive that brutal experience and get out into the woods when deer season arrived in November.
My friends in my hunt club took me duck hunting only two or three weeks after I'd completed rads and chemo. I was pretty miserable, but they took care of me and I had a great time.
And then, on the opening day of deer season, I got a deer and somehow mustered up the strength to drag it out, field dress it and take it to the butcher.
That meant the world to me, and I'm convinced that my determination to hunt that fall helped me get through it all.
Y'all might not be hunters, but if you have something that's dear to you, hold it near and use it for inspiration. Worked for me anyway.

I love boating, I am old salty (Seamen) and there is nothing better then feeling the salt spray in your face or being out in the middle of the Ocean at night looking up at the stars.0 -
My Hobby
I'm a member of the Seattle Modern Quilt Guild. Last year I made 9 baby quilts for friends of mine. There are two more in planning stages at the moment. I hope to take my poor machine out of hibernation this week and get cracking on at least one of them, now that I know the gender.0 -

The treatment time further established my hobby of computer activity, just as being on this forum has. Golf took a major hit years ago when I developed arthritis in my lower-back, so the dream of breaking 80 was already in my dust when C came around. And, as a sport's fan, the Cubs and Bears sure haven't been doing their part in keeping me busy with following their teams (though the Bears of 2010...).
I'm what is known as a Chartist. The banking/housing crisis hit the market so the low was in March of 09. My treatment started in early-Feb., so I had a lotta time at home to be on the comp during market hours. For stocks, it was both the best and worst of times, and I went thru a major change that has worked out quite well. To be painfully honest, though, in all I'm still around break-even, so it's not like I've done well. It's just that during the time of treatment it kept me very busy on the comp both before and after the rads, and then after the market close with the charting, which takes 1 1/2-hours, typical- truly did help me a lot. Made me feel like I was still working, you know, and that was very good therapy for me. And it is like a hobby with me, still, because if it was a job- hey, I'd have spent the last 9 years waiting to get my first paycheck!

I do Genealogy and like it very much, I have been doing our family tree for over 15 years. I crochet, do Mosaics almost any craft. My husband likes to buy cars that have been wreck and he rebuilds them . He loves that and that is his hobby.0
