First I want to say this group is great! So many of you have helped me! I was diagnosed with colon cancer in April, 2009 and had a resection in May, 2009. The tumor was in the ascending colon and it was huge, 8.5 x 7.5 x 2.5 cm. I was staged at IIA and after a two month delay I started chemo. I didn’t do well on the chemo. Had a lot of topic reactions and ended up in bed for a total of 20-days, the emergency room once, and two hospital stays for a total of 7-days. Also had a perforated colon, but it managed to close-off without surgery. Anyway, they finally stopped my chemo when it was two-thirds completed, because of the toxic reaction I had to it. I gained about 40 pounds during this period and started back exercising with short bike rides two months ago, which I built up to about four miles a day. About three weeks ago I started to jog again. At first I could only go half a block. Today, three weeks later, I did four miles. My CEA from a few weeks ago was 2.1. My Cat Scan from two months ago was clear. I’m feeling good. I’m feeling positive. We will see how it goes. Hope my story helps someone who is now struggling to see that there is light at the end of the tunnel and it’s important to never give up.

    wow
You seem to be progressing well, good for you! I am too trying to get back to exercising, it is like I have to start all over again and build myself back up, cancer and chemo knocked me down more than a few pegs. But I am not complaining since I am well enough to start building back up. Good luck to you, keep up the fight!

Glad to hear your good news
You have done very well with your recovery. It sounds like a big part of your sucess is the spirit of 'get out there and try'.

It reminds us all that sucess is not achieved in an instant, but in those small steps from 1/2 block to 4 miles!

Best wishes for your continued health,

    Marie who loves kitties

    good news
    Hello,

I'm glad to hear you are now feeling good, the CEA is down, and you're able to do quite a bit of exercising! Yes, this does and should give hope to others that even when you're on what may actually seem like death's door, that it may not be so and you may spring back again! Thanks for sharing & I'm glad to hear from you, as it's been a while since I've seen one of your posts.

    Many more blessings to you,
    Lisa

    4 miles
Great. A 4 mile jog after just 3 weeks of recommencing exercise might be a little hasty. But as I'm sure you know, some studies show that exercise pays off in a big way to lower recurrence rates.
