A Possible Remedy for the Broken-Glass-Through-The-Butt Syndrome

I was given a suggestion by another anal cancer survivor who suffered from an anal fissure and I tried it and WOW what a difference! She told me when I'm ready for a BM, sit on a sitz bath filled with very warm water (hot enough that I could bear it), relax (read a book or magazine) and release the stools in the sitz bath. I felt the warm water, I felt very little, if any burning sensation as stools were passing and I was much more relaxed through the BM. Lately, I have been freaking out anytime I had to go to the bathroom because I would anticipate the pain I would have to endure. What a relief that I finally got some relief!!! I can't wait to talk to this person later to thank her for her suggestion. But, of course, this is not a cure...just something to make things easier to bear until the problem can be taken care of. Please try it, if you haven't already, and let me know if it worked for you too, okay?

    No Problemo!
I've gotten so many great advice and suggestions from this board that I'm just glad I was able to pass this along to others. In the mean time, I put a call in to the nurse at onc's office who will call me back tomorrow after she discusses my problem with the onc. Most likely, I will be referred back to GI for treatment. If it is a fissure that I have, I want to get in treated as soon as possible to prevent further problems. I already have appt to see Onc Gyn next month because of fusion so I'm trying to take care of one problem at a time. It seems like a lot but I'm trying not to get too overwhelmed.

    Thanks Hon!
