    Gizzards??
OMG!!! Are these what I think they are??? Are they like the things you find in little paper type bags stuffed up the turkey's bum (or hmmm... maybe it's in the neck cavity?) Tell me it isn't so, Kim! Tell me you aren't eating Turkey gizzards?!?!?! LOL!!

But I'll definitely join you in the Lobster with the drawn butter and the pizza with extra cheese.... just don't go putting no gizzards on the pizza :D:D

    Cheryl

    Yup
Only do the chicken gizzards though not the turkey. That was one thing they said that could bring my platelett count up while on chemo (organ meat) and it worked - well think so :) Couldn't do the liver though - yuck.

When I want dinner, I usually find myself craving salmon fixed about anyway or Mexican food. My mouth is really oversensitive now to spicy food, though, so I get only the mildest Mexican foods I can now. We have a good family owned Mexican restaurant near us and we go there about once a week. I love chicken tacos or fish tacos from Rubios or La Salsa- never get tired of those, although I probably only have them once every few weeks or so, but I do find myself craving them sometimes in the middle of the day.
I could eat pizza from Pizza Hut once a week if I allowed myself to(some weeks I do!)
I've never been a mashed potatoes and gravy person, but I love red potatoes chopped up cooked with butter, garlic, parmesean cheese, and lots of oregano, salt and pepper.
Could eat those every day! I also love chicken breast (no skin) cooked about any way (except not fried- never liked the skin or any kind of coating over the meat).

For dessert... I love ice cream and I love warm peach pie with vanilla ice cream melting on top. Don't have the pie that often, but I do have ice cream several times a week. This is actually something I'm trying to get better about- not having ice cream as often. It's so hard- the hubby and kids freak out if I come home from the grocery store without ice cream. So it's always there tempting me, calling my name... :)

Glad to see you back around Cheryl! Reading these posts made me hungry!

Comfort food eh? sounds silly, but one of my favorites is salisbury steak, mashed potatos and corn - one of those nasty, over-salted cheap frozen dinners! I can eat pizza any day, any time, but not from any place! Since I left Philly have only found 2-3 places that makes a good pizza (dominoes and pizza hut are NOT pizza, and they cut round cracker crust style pizza in squares here in MN, yuck). I miss philly cheese steaks and pretzels...

but wow - haven't heard anyone liking fried bologna in a really long time! and fried spam? YUMMY!

Fresh chopped chicken livers - yum
Sautee some onions, the livers (must be fresh), chop in a hard-boiled egg; salt and pepper to taste....

Every Friday night as an appetizer when I was a kid. I'd bring chopped liver sandwiches to school (grossing out the other kids, but I truly loved them!)

    Big YUM!

    Lunch
Talking about grossing the kids out at school, my mom would give me a cow's tongue sandwich (leftover from last night's dinner). Those were really good until one day after coming home from school I saw it cooling on the counter. My mom usually had it all cut up before we got home. That was the ugliest thing ever. Couldn't eat it after that :)

    My wife makes this great
My wife makes this great crockpot stew with beef tips, condensed mushroom and cheddar cheese soups all over mashed potatoes with fried onion rings that I just love. Somehow it all mixes together and makes this amazing brown gravy. Absolutely one of my favorite stick to your ribs winter meals. I may have to put in a request this week and see if she will make it. Thanks for posting this, it made me feel all warm and cozy just thinking about a plate ... haha.

    Kid Food
My Mom made fried bologna and the gran kids called them, oh jeez, I can't remember! Something like puffy sandwiches, because the bologna would pop up in the middle. I have to call my Mom so she can tell me what they called them. Bubble, bubble sandwiches!

    Lunch, Cow's Tongue, Gizzards :)
LOL Kim! You amaze me! What is interesting is some of the foods listed here that people find as comfort foods, or just real good eats, be them a treat or an ongoing regular meal... others find gross! Obviously they are not gross to those that like them... but for us uninitiated, I have to tell you, the Gizzards and Cow Tongue are just a little too much for me to even contemplate. I know the vegetarians amongst us are probably cringing big time. I am not a vegetarian and have no problem with the concept of eating meat... but I guess I am a food snob and have no problem with steaks, ground beef, roasts, etc. I just can't see eating some of the other parts

But you go, girl! If it tastes good, brings back happy memories, then it's all a good thing :)

    I Love talking about food!!
Right now I'm having a favorite snack of cherry tomatoes that we grew in our garden, which came out wonderful! I halve the tomatoes, dab on some mayo, salt and pepper, and really chow on them.

And Ewwww on gizzards, disgusting!! LOL!! I think my hubby uses them for fish bait LOL!

    Fried bologna...yummy!!!

Mow my comfort type foods are creamy casserole dishes, like creamy chicken noodles with fresh egg noodles or dumplings in them, and also broccoli cheese casseroles.

Spaghetti and Meatballs or Lasagna with some great fresh parmesan cheese.

And lots of fruits, we actually planted ton of watermelon this year, and had picked some and they tasted real awesome!! nice and sweet!!!Well time go !! Hope to all!!

    Hugs!!!

Ok, this is not fair... that sounds soooo good!! And I have a crockpot!! When you put in a request this week for this wonderful stew, could you tell your wife there are some starving (oh, let's play the cancer card... it usually is good for extra sympathy points) cancer folk who feel they have enough energy to throw things in a crockpot if some wonderful wife would give us the recipe?? :D

::: sitting at desk with knife in one hand, fork in the other, ready to dig in::: :)

    very simple ...
Even I can make it ...

    1lb beef tips
    1can cream of mushroom stew
    1can cheddar cheese soup
1/2 package dry onion soup mix

cook on high in the crockpot for about 5 hours stirring it up once in a while.

Then just mash some potatoes and cook up some onion rings. I personally like to put the onion rings on top of the mashed potatoes and then cover it all with the beef and gravy. I tell you it is one of my favorites and it's so simple.

Wow... that really does sound simple!! So you don't brown or in any way cook the beef tips first? You just cook them in the soups for the 5 hours or so? Gee... it doesn't get much easier than that... and as soon as it cools down here, I am definitely going to give that a whirl!! Thanks for posting this!!

I was thinking of a tongue sandwich for dinner tonight
Going to an outdoor concert, and stopping for some good deli sandwiches to bring along. I had been considering tongue before I saw your post, tho I think I'm going for the whitefish salad tonight. I want something a little lighter - too much heavy meat lately!

My mom used to boil tongues, too. It was weird, but I was okay with it. I probably have tongue sandwiches 4 or 5 times a year! Love 'em.

    Interesting but tough!
I found this question interesting but tough - during chemo what I crave varies everytime, but smoothies are fairly good consistently. Sometimes I crave meat, other times I can't even stand the smell of it. I do usually like pasta as comfort foods. I love seafood + my youngest daughter is making a clam chowder right now for dinner - it smells fantastic. Fruit is usually something I can enjoy, even after chemo.

    ok...
that beef tip thing sounds great - gonna save this recipe and try it soon as the weather gets a bit cooler! They make this beef tip thing at the bar with a horseradish sauce of sorts (still can't get the cook to tell me whats in it) and the french fried onions that is to die for!

Donna - I love you - and i want some watermelon! gosh I miss having my own house! renting in townhouse central here really stinks.

I grew up in the best of both worlds - my grandma (mom's) is from kentucky, and my dads side is all italian....I have learned to cook and love sooo many things....I miss walking into my dad's house and just smelling the pasta and sauce and whatever he has in it! Can't wait to go home for Thanksgiving now!

    I LOVE FOOD!!!
I only craved two things while going through chemo. Chicken fried chicken and orange juice. Dave would fix this for me every other Sunday night after getting done with chemo. His is THE best! He doesn't fry it which is probably why it's so good. He bakes his which makes it even more healthy.. Some mashed potatoes with gravy? Oh yeah. Since I live in Idaho and my brothers are potato farmers. I gotta love potatoes. :)

Shepherds pie. Nuf said about that one. I could eat it for breakfast, dinner or supper. Summer, winter or fall... it's the bomb.

Gizzards? oh yeah!! LOVE them too.

Dave makes a pork chop dish with potatoes and onions. Very tasty and VERY, very good!!

Lasagna, and Italian food in general is comfort food for me. It's all good.
