edited March 2014 in Anal Cancer #1
just been diagnosed with anal cancer for the third time in three years. I start treatment monday july 26th. My first diagnoses in 07 i had 5fu and mitomycin with radiation for 6 weeks(with a week break for burns)the second time was 09 when it reappeared i was dealing iwth lymphoids and liver. i was given 5fu and cisplatin with two seperate chemoembolizations done on my liver. It was at the beginning of this treatment I left my local hositpal and went to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America. I travel three hrs each way(which isnt all that bad) for what I hope is the best treatment. I will need to stay there this time for 5 to 6 weeks for radiation. I will be also recieving chemo drugs Oxaliplatin and Xeloda....If anyone knows anything about this treatment I would love to hear it. The doctors have told me that the treatment isnt near as bad as my previous treatment. (the area they are treating now is outside of my stomach).

    Hi Lisa,

I'm so sorry you have had recurrances. I have only had the standard tx that you reffered to for the initial anal cancer. I know on the correctol board many posters have had the oxaliplatin and the xeloda. Maybe if you post there also, you might get a lot of information.
I hope that this treatment will cure you for good, and you won't have to deal with this any longer. Please keep us posted. Lori

    Hi Lisa!
I am sorry that cancer seems to not be leaving you alone. I think once is enough! I'm glad that your previous treatments have been successful and I wish you the same success with the one coming up. Is the reason you are getting radiation again due to the fact that the cancer is not in the previous treatment field? I'm not familiar with the chemo drugs you will be receiving--sorry I can't offer any comments to help you. I wish you the very best and hope you'll come back and let us know how you are doing.

    yes the reason for radiation
yes the reason for radiation again is because its a different area. thank you for all well wishes. I wish before i had found this site(i'm sure it knew it was avaible)but as most of you the last thing you want to do is sit down and chat. I just pray this treatment takes care of it.

Best wishes on your treatment Lisa
    Lisa,
So sorry to hear about your reoccurrence. We all hope you are able to kick this latest round. Unfortunately, I have only received the standard treatment for anal cancer so I don't have any info on the chemo drugs you will be receiving. It's good that the doctors said this treatment should be easier than what you have gone through before.

    Dang Lisa.....well hopefully
Dang Lisa.....well hopefully 3 is a charm!!!! That's what I tell myself after 3 different rounds of cancer. Started with anal. So it has not spread? Just comes back in the same area??? I think that is so unusual.....but that's what they've said about me.
Definitely ask on the colon boards, if you haven't already. There are MANY there who have experiences with the chemo you mentioned, but be sure to come back and keep us posted!

    Additional radiation and
new chemos.... May you get better this time around! I, too, cannot do more than offer my best wishes, thoughts and prayers.

This is the first time I am hearing about additional radiation. I know enough science to get myself in trouble but I think maybe since the newer radiation equipment can target so precisely that they are able to tackle different areas with radiation, too. If you have had full pelvic exposure, they may not be able to use it again.

I do wish you a complete recovery this time!
