Niece diagnosed

I am an ovarian cancer survivor, my neice was just diagnosed with uterine cancer and was asking if I knew the best treatments. She has surgery on the 21st. Thanks much

    Sorry about your niece's diagnosis. A lot of uterine cancers are treated the same as ovarian. six month taxol/carboplatin, radiation, and bracyradiation. Although everyone is different and should look into the many options available per each individual case.

    One of the best ways is to have your niece look at all the threads on this discussion board. It is very helpful and informative. It has helped me a lot.

    Treatments
    Her treatment will depend on the type of cancer and the grade of the cells. It also depends on staging. There are guidelines for uterine cancer treatment published, I can't remember the name of the book, but you can even get it on line. (chemo brain) Claudia knows what it is. I think it is National Cancer Standards or something like that. They list all treatments for stage and grade. Gosh I wish I could think of it. Do a google search for standards of treatment for uterine cancer and it will come up. Radiation is contraversial right now; especially the external beam.

    Once you get her hysterectomy pathology report, the women here will really be able to help best. We've made an effort to make this discussion board the best place online to get 'real time' treatment decision help. We post all of the new research that comes out here to add to the value of the SEARCH mechanism on this Board. Originally all of women posting (all of the old posts from 2008 and early 2009) had UPSC, the rarer and more aggressive form of uterine cancer, but since then this online community has broadened to include many women with the MUCH more common and MUCH more curable forms of uterine cancer. I pray your niece falls into that 'largely curable' category. But whatever the diagnosis, we're here to help. And if your niece cannot resist internet research, please direct her here, as anything online older than 2008 or 2009 is probably outdated and no longer relevant, advances are happening that fast.
