Hi All, I've got a problem: I am exhausted! For the last few weeks I have had to use every bit of energy I have to just exist, let alone work. I'm more than a year out of treatment but I feel like I am having those post-chemo/rad symptoms. My appetite is zip although I have been forcing myself to eat little healthy meals. Next week I go to my scheduled CAT scan and then a few days later the Doctor, so I will hold out I guess.
(btw, I am sclc, supposedly cured, finished treatment in April '09). Has anyone ever experienced this?
THanks

    Medi,

I really, really hope you're okay and it's just things catching up with you! I have crashes sometimes, when I feel like I surely can't get up for work or to do the dishes, but you say this has been going on for a few weeks? I'm glad you're so close to scan and Dr. time, and I'm wishing you all the luck in the world!

I also hope that the tireness is just the summer heat and work. Try not to worry so much I know it is very hard not to. I think we worry about every little thing after what some have gone through. Hopefully the tireness will pass after your results of the scan, when you get good news. Best of everything

Hello there. I dont have any ideas to help with the tiredness except that sometimes steroids can help give some relief. But this is a matter for you to discuss with your doctor. Im so glad that your appointment is soon. I know this sounds contradictory but some light exercise really does help with the tiredness. Also get all the rest you can and try juicing some fruit and vegetables for extra nutrition. Good luck!

    hi Deb
Thanks Deb; I had this happen about 6 months ago and it came out of nowhere and left just as quickly. I was dehydrated. This time I think stress may be involved, I am a single parent just realizing that '21', while making a person 'legal' does not denote maturity ;). Also a nasty nasty oil slick that is killing marinelife and people's livelihoods is headed my way and we've had some 100 degree weather down here. As you can see, sometimes I just wallow ;).
thanks! hope you are doing well!

Hi Anniepants! I have following my exercise routine(just a shadow of it really) for a few weeks. I t does help but it is hard to get built back up. Kindof like putting money in a fund then realizing that there is no money there. Does that make sense?
    THank you!

    Medi...
I think sometimes when I get a symptom, especially if it lasts more than a few days, I am pretty convinced it is The Cancer - but before we had cancer we did not blame our symptoms on this most frightening possibility - Pre-C if we were tired or dragging around we might think we had a nutritional deficiency (Vit B12 or D), anemia if we aren't eating as we might, low thyroid function, a blood sugar problem, too much caffeine, even depression or a myriad of other more everyday maladies that are all pretty easy to detect and treat - here is hoping you find out that you are not immune to an ordinary diagnosis just because you have experienced an extraordinary one - hoping for the best when you see the doc - keep us posted - connie.

    Hi Medi
The most common word among all cancer survivors is fatigue.

Medi, I don't know if this
Medi, I don't know if this is good news or bad news for you... I am 2 1/2 years post diagnosis, and almost 1 1/2 years since I was declared cancer free (I had Stage III nsclc), and I am STILL exhausted all the time... I was "lucky" in that I was declared disabled prior to my cancer for a severe back condition, so I didn't have to worry about returning to work after my cancer was eliminated. As my wife says, my job now is to sit on the couch and stay alive... (I've got a good woman there)...

Again, I don't know if this is what you want to hear... but even going out in the morning to get the paper can be kind of rough... :(

    so true!
Yes you are right connie, not long ago a friend of mine (with no cancer) went through a similair spell (but longer) and they finally found it was vitamin D deficiency! It would seem that would be the last diagnosis someone living in Florida would get!
Thank you and I am working on getting the focus off cancer. I'll let you know!
    Cheers!

Hi medi nice to meet you. I
Hi medi nice to meet you. I was a caregiver for my dad. He passed away in March with ec and mets to the liver. Your tiredness could be many things. Yes you could be dehydrated again. Especially if you are not eating too much. You could be anemic. You could have an underactive thyroid. I think a trip to your dr. is in order! Then you can stop playing this guessing game. I am sure it is not cancer! Take care and keep in touch.

    MEDI. ?????
Media. You better than most should know it could be one of many different things. Jumping to the C is both natural and stressing. Before you get yourself over stressed, take a deep breath and try and relax. Before you jump to the big C, wait til the Doc gets the results back and says it is. You could be a little depressed, stress, heat related exhaustion, or just having an off time, it could be so many things and I sure hope and pray that it isn't the C.
I just think that like many who have battled this disease, we jump straight to the worst because we have heard so many others who have had it raise it's ugly head again.
We are with you in spirit and prayer the test results are negative, and your Just having one of those times as so many.

Our Prayers and Best Wishes to You, Your Family, and Everyone,
    Dan (cobra1122) and Margi Harmon

    tired also
    Hi Medi,
My last treatment (radiation) was August 2009 and last Chemo was July 2009. still I am alway
tired. I go for 3 month PT Scan tommorrow and the oncologist on Friday. When I mention I am tired I am told it's symtonatic (so, I guess, this is normal) You are not alone. What I do not like is the 3 month thing. Every 3 months going for a CAT or PT scan and awating results for 24-48 hours (it seems like forever). It makes everything feel so temporary. Like living in 3 month increments.
good luck at your ct scan and wish you good results.
