I have what seems like a permanent voice change now. I am 6 months out now and it seems to be getting a little worse. I completely lost my voice during the 3rd week of concurrent chemo/rad. When treatment was completed in NOV. my voice seemed ok. the rad onc showed me that there was a spot right next to my vocal cords which is/was the culprit.
I also have what seems to be something like phlegm that has me clearing my throat on a regular basis, the ENT scoped me on my last visit and was not concerned.
When is your next ENT visit? Mine is the end of July and I will ask about the voice change for the both of us.
I am not too concerned about changes in my life that is/was part of treatment. I dont care what the new normal is/becomes. You/We made it thru treatment and beat the monster and are ALIVE. Best Wishes & Prayers

    survivor and dave, I'm 8
survivor and dave, I'm 8 months post trmnt and my voice changes on a regular basis. Sometimes it is ok but if I talk alot or sit quietly too long, it gets more deep than normal. It has been this way for some time. I think it may be nothing but if you find out it is something to watch, please let me know. I wish you both the very best. take care friends.

    Voice change
I am also 8 months out, and have noticed voice change, and clearing my throat a lot lately.
It is especially prominent in the morning. My voice does come and go. Don't get me wrong, I AM concerned. I SHOULD call my ENT for a scope, but I am so fed up with Drs appts, and co-pays! (I know, I know, stop whining!)
Also, I am trying to get Sonny to all his visits b4 he has to go back to college.
Arghhh - okay -You convinced me! I will call for appt with ENT for next week and let you know. Lol!Gonna try Robitussin tonite. Love & Prayers, Patty

    LOL, now you stutter also....
Just teasing, that double (multiple) posting things has happened to most of us at one time or another. Sometime the site is very slow and you hit the reply button more than once thinking it's not working. The next thing you see is multiple postings....

The voice and throat situation does seem to change frequently. I have been finished with everything for over a year now, and very seldom do I not have something going on. Either a little hoarse, sore spot, irritation, stiffness, always something it seems. It used to worry me a lot, and still concerns me at times, but the ENT always assures me it's normal and will be like that for awhile.

    Me too
I'm 8 months out and about a month ago while we were out of town for a hockey tournament for my daughter my voice started to go. It started on a Saturday and by Sunday I couldn't even talk. Also had a very slight swelling in my lymph nopdes with some tenderness. By Thursday or Friday everything was back to normal. When I saw my ENT he said it was probably just a virus and my lymph system was trying to do it's thing, was just having trouble what with all the radiation damage. He wasn't concerned at all and I have been fine ever since. I have also found a dentist visit really upsets things in my throat. Not sure if it is the flouride treatment (YUK) or maybe the extra abrasive toothpaste used but it takes about 5 days for my throat to return to "normal". I know I am extra sensitive to any changes whatsoever after all of this and like John I get concerned but try not to worry. Since I still see the ENT every 4 weeks it's not too long to wait and ask.

    Fluoride
Mike, aren't you still doing any additional fluoride treatments? I know that I still use the ORAL-B fluoride every few days (brushing with it, not rinsing for 15 minutes or so)....

I know that Delnative and a few others use trays or some other method of extra fluoride treatments. My dentist said I should continue doing so, lower production of saliva is a major concern for accelerated tooth decay.

    Yes
In addition to a flouride treatment at the detist every 6 months I use Sensodyne Pro-namel toothpaste twice a day at home. Additionally I use Biotene mouthwash for the AM brushing and a childrens flouride mouthwash (no alcohol) for the PM brushing. Haven't used any over the counter flouride treatment. So far no cavities or other problems to speak of. Also, my community fouridtaes the drinking water as well.

    ahh..the voice
I am told by some I sound like Lauren Bacall now...:)
However, others say its more like a frog..

It seems to be worse until about noon. Kind of a pain, I teach classes (CPR and safe sitter)
and I really need to use my voice. Hope it kind of settles down.
Hydration does not really seem to change anything..

    Voice Gone Downhill
My voice has gotten worse, too. It bothers me that my voice was usually normal a couple months ago, but now is usually off. I, too, feel like my recovery has taken a few steps back, and have some issues that had cleared up before.

I see my docs Friday for 3 month test results. I will be bringing this up with them.
