    I have been told that the hyperbaric chamber forces oxygen into the cells and aids in healing when healing is slow or seems not to be happening. My neighbor went through having radiation and chemo, and he was burned badly. He actually turned black over parts of his face and neck. He was done with the cancer, but was simply not healing well. After a number of treatments in the chamber he reported to me that he could not see any results of it. However, by the time he was done with treatment he was all pink and healthy looking again. He is cancer free today, and completely healed. My brother in law runs a hyperbaric clinic, and he tells me that it is used basically as a healing aid. Not just for cancer survivers, but any wound that refuses to heal properly.

    I've gone 5 days threw this, i stay 2-1/2 hours in the chamber system, your slid in o your back, and the door closes, it's all glass so not to closed in, the assistant will inform you he is going to lower the oxygen and proceed full strength on the hydrogen, you ears pop and it's like being on a airplane, you watch t.v, read a book. the treatment ends with the the levels being brought back down, the feeling you have alot of energy, hard to sleep at night, the healing is taking place inside, they tell me half in the sessions i should see some change. I'll keep everyone posted, I went to the Cancer Doctor, Monday, and my airway has opened more, which we feel this is s positive way to go, he said we will talk about the trach removal in 2 weeks...please pray this happens, for it causes me alot of distress, and seems to be a hang up with me, I can keep my trach most of teh day, so I am hoping, anyone that has had a trach and had it removed, please write me back...thanks Dennis

    Thanks for the up-date on what you are doing, I am thinking about doing this myself but just want to see if it really helps first. Keeping you in prayers

    Trach removal
    Hi Dennis,

    I had a trach 15 years ago because of surgery to rewire all of the broken bones in my face and a broken jaw that I received in a car accident. I only had it for about 4 weeks but it was stitched to my throat and I hated the whole experience. The removal was nothing, at least back then, they removed the stitches and then they just pull it out. They didn't even stitch the incision closed, they taped a gauze pad over it and told me not to get it wet for 2 days. I was amazed how easy the whole procedure was. Like I said, this was 15 years ago but I'm sure it is done the same way now.

    Its not a hangup - its a real displeasure for some.

    My wife didnt have Rad Therapy but had a trachi for 6 months after laryngpharingial surgeries.

    After she had her feeding tube removed, the trach was next.

    It drove her nuts. It was plugged closed for about a month and half, "just in case" she needed it, according to the docs. Because partial larengectomies are suseptible to aspiration and neumonia , they wanted to be sure that gd forbid she needed it, there would be an open airway. She first had a plastic canola and then a metal canola, which made talking easier.

    But, after her eating improved and her breathing was constant, and the fact that she wasnt really using it, she insisted in removing it. One surgeion agreed to this. The hole can close in two weeks, but sometimes in adults it can take a month. THere are somecases where the hole doesnt close completely and there is a quick surgical procedure for this. Her hole is now almost completely closed, but not 100%.

    When they removed it, she had to say in hospital overnight for observation to see if there was any problems breathing, eating etc. A day after , she felt like "a different person" .
    We have check ups every two weeks to check that there is no swelling or swallowing problems.
    SO far so good, and she is coughing much much less. As i understand it, many people with trachi fell like theyre being starngled. I dont think anyone who hasnt had it, can really understand the feeling of a trachi in the throat.

    Today she needs to be very minded when she eats and MAINLY others need to understand that eating and speaking is difficult, so they need constand reminding about this.

    I have followed many of your posts; i wish from the depth of my heart that you will feel better and get over you r terrible challenges you face.

    I hope to hear how your latest therapy is and was. Under what circumstances can a person have this. Is this to deal only with damaged done by Radiation or can it be used combat tumors too.

    I sit here feeling alone an wondering what life is going to throw next, to tell you the truth the trach in my throat is making me gag and choke, I appreciate everyones input, and I am hoping it's positive news next few weeks from teh docotr, your right, if you haven't one of these it's like being pinched to death, i thik it's causing more pain and irritation than teh breathing, i closed mine off most of the day, i still get winded if i have to run, but can handle it closed off, i had my plug up last night, and and woke up to clean it out because there was no air coming threw it, I didn't die at least...lol, still taking my therapy, the 2-1/2 hour hydrogen sleep, will commnet end of this week how i'm feeling..best to all Dennis
