Kidney function and chemo

Can anyone share the experience with cisplatin (spelling) and kidney function. They said my dad's was up 1.4 after his 3rd chemo. They reduced the dose and said they doctor will talk with us about this Friday. Does that mean he will have to stop chemo or change drugs?

The one nurse acted like it was a big deal and the other told me it was to be expected.

    kidney function
Yes Pumakitty, Cistplatin is to kidney's what kryptonite is to Superman. However the docs do have some weapons in their armory for it. You say it's up 1.4 is that up to 1.4 or up 1.4. It is referring to creatinine. normal range for creatinine is 0.4 to 1.2. If his number is 1.4 then it's negligible if it's up to 2.6 then it is a little more serious but not earth shattering. At the end of my treatments my number was 2.2. The docs kept an eye on it, I had blood drawn every month and had it checked. It has now settled at 1.8. This is classified as "elevated". but no need to do anything. It's been a year since I finished my treatment, have not noticed a difference in anything except. No anti-imflamatories

    Thanks, his number was 1.4.
Thanks, his number was 1.4. All his other counts have looked great, but I was concerned.

    GFR
Another number that they look at is the GFR ~ Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) it's a test used to check how well the kidneys are working. Specifically, it estimates how much blood passes through the tiny filters in the kidneys, called glomeruli, each minute.

    Creatinine
Hi Puma, I would say that after a few weeks that the kidney function will return to high normal of 1.2. Mine came down 0.4. Not much too concern yourself with. Denis

We will see what is happening this Friday. My dad did not drink as much water and was still dealing with dehydration the first two weeks. The nurse said that might have something to do with it. We also will talk with the Chemo doctor this time. This will be the first since he started treatment.
