Reading Skiffin's response to the "blood count" string has prompted me to open this post.

1. Can you or anyone else give me some ideas as how i should organize my filing system which in itself is supposed to be organised, right? THIS would transform my life.
I have a hard copy binder/file/ simply because everything is printed out from hospital.

2. As for my PC, i have this forum. I now and again copy posts, but have joined them all together as one document. believe me i end up having to read everything.Suppose i shopuld be using the favorites possibility up there in the right hand corner.

3.Finally how do you folk read the posts in an efficient way?

    My system
I use an old paint stained plastic milk-crate in which manila file folders fit rather nicely. I have a folder for inurance bills, paid and unpaid. One for each surgical procedure with copies of the operative reports. One for each imaging procedure with written copies of reports as well as the image disks. One with a timeline of every doctors appointment , location, telephone, fax numbers and procedure. Complete packages of every procedure copied complete with doctors notes copied in brown envelopes for mailing if necessary and various other cancer related news articles which I find will be useful at some point. I have a patients rights folder and a "staging folder". I have a neck disection folder.

The document titled 'Timeline' I keep in a word document that I update as the procedure is completed. I also hand out copies of these when meeting new doctors complete with my medication. They just shut up, quit asking questions, and start writing. I make it a point to always take one of their business cards with me for late editing.

Publications of interest I print and save or just procure and save.

Lastly I have an email folder titled "Cancer Links" Into that goes everything I find on line of interest as well as emails from relatives and friends containing useful information.

I do exactly the same thing for physical medical supplies. I have an eight drawer plastic monstrosity in which I have a drawer for gauze, meds, syringes, tapes and bandages, ointments and creams, all those oral hygienge freebies you accumulate.

Find any system that fits your budget, level of computer expertise, and is practical to your situation and just go with it. This is one of those situations where every system works as long as you have one and use it.

I like to keep most of my files and data in electronic format. I found a nice little personal organizer program for it thats easy to learn. It allows you to cross organize and the nice thing for me is if you scan a file then add it to this prog as an attachment you don't need the original taking up space anymore.

The other cool thing is you can have it run off your computer or a usb drive so you can carry the program and data everywhere.

    hope this helps.

I use the same method as you SASH, LOL.... I just have a good memory... That works fine for me. Until my wife cleans up and consolidates my piles, then I can't find...umm crap.

    Store It
Keep it and then 10 or 15 years from now pull it out and reflect....

    to keep or to toss
I kept all my paper work from treatments for 5 years. After that it all went in the trash. I probably would have kept it, but had major damage to my house and the portfolio that I kept it all in had to be tossed along with everything in it.

As I had said before, this is not an area I excel in, unfortunately. I have always purchased calandars, and swore I would use them, and never did. Or a book with everyone's birthday, nope, it to is blank. Organzier in gorgeous leather case, for work and personal stuff, empty. You sensing a trend here....

But.....but....I downloaded the EssentialPIM free program, Dukarchon, and I have been using it. A lot. It is full of stuff, and appointments. All kinds of things I need to remember. I set the alarm, it works to remind me. I like it! Best of all I am using it, and I am remembering to do stuff. I am going to put everyone's birthdays in this thing. Yay! So, thanks so much for the recommendation. Since I always have the laptop on, and check it, and use it, it makes sense that is the way to go.

Now, as for my room, and the rest of the house. Well, I am seriously contemplating a maid. I am going to look at my limited budget, and see. Also have a bit of a gift that some one gave me that would 'buy' a good 20 hours of maid service. I hate to spend my gift on that, but I might. I have been doing okay with doing my own laundry, and keeping up with my bedding, my bathroom, and dog grooming, but my granmother is killing me. She is better physically than I am, but won't do anything around the house.....and is not letting her dog out. I spend 95% of my time when I am home, solely in my room. Rest of living space is her's and all her things. She is worse at organization than I am . Not good. lol
