I think I may have messed up
Well… I think I may have messed up. I saw a great job on Craigslist last week and now they want to interview me. So I fly out tomorrow at 5pm to Albany Oregon for a interview on Friday at 1pm. I’m so worried about being on the plane for 3 hrs and pooping my paints or at the interview and having to jump up and run for the bathroom. Now what am I going to do?

I'm unreliable after CAT scans (barium or gastrografen)
And concerned because I have to travel home 4 hours by car and train that evening. My problems can begin right away or as late as 36 hours later, and last from 3 hours to an additional 5 days. I'm bringing depends with me for travel home. Usually the barium is the quicker acting, and I'm all right within a few hours. The gastrografen is notorious for starting problems at an unknown time after, and the gut problems last for me for 3-5 days.

I should be having barium this time, so I expect to be okay.

Best bet is to be prepared. I needed Depends in the hospital, as my gut gave no warnings, so much as I dread the idea, I realize that my body isn't always going to be predictable, and I must deal accordingly.

    I'm wishing you the best.
I'm wishing you the best. How far along are you from when you had the reversal? Is it recent?

    So Sorry
    Dear Brooks,

So sorry you are having such a rough time. Hopefully with each passing day you will improve. You have fought so hard to get to this point...keep it up friend. We're all pulling for you.

    Blessings and Big Hugs,

    Pooping fire
Now I got the fire poop... burns like a SOB... CRAZY!!!

    Been there, too.
    Brooks,

The last time I was hospitalized it was for "fire poop." I spent a night in the bathroom going, "Oh, God. Oh, God." Finally called my doctor's office and told them I felt like I was dying. I had rectal spasms, and it was PAINFUL. Several days of morphine and bed rest, and I decided to live.

    *hugs*

    This Is....
...Exactly the reason why I am so afraid to get my takedown. I don't have the patience to retrain, it could take way too long, and just happy with the bag I guess! I hope it does get better for you sweety, don't give up, you can be one that has no problems after a few weeks, just give it time. No spicy foods, just watch what you eat as well.

We may not be able to share any cool bag busting stories for awhile, but at least now you can trade retraining stories LOL!

    Hugsss!

    Dude, hang in there
I just got home from takedown today, so I can't say I know what you mean, but for you it has been just a few weeks post takedown. There are still lots of adjustments to make.

My wife found something that is intriguing. Hard to explain, but they are hmmm, might as well just say it, manly panty liners. They work with boxer/briefs. They are just fill the crotch and so far my slightly enlarged groin area has not been noticeable. I like them. When wearing them with speedos I would look more manly. Now to do something about that faint, wafting smell of poo.

So far I have been able to hold back the tides of flood waters. I was improving nicely until I had mac and cheese in the hospital. They said I could go home if the noon meal went ok. I did what anyone would do, I lied and said things were great. I am home now and that is what matters to me. I took a nice long nap when I got home and feel greatish now.

Did they just leave a whole i you where you ostomy was? Freaks me out, took my first shower today. Felt great.

Dude, I am so sorry to hear you have not been able to regulate things well enough to make it all manageable. Plus I was hoping for some Brooks, Words of Wisdom on the subject.

Been using all the standard stuff, Tucks, a barrier of some kind, soft soft soft wipes and some soft soft soft TP? I hate having to take ten extra minutes every time I drop a load, but so far it has been manageable and I am happy I had the takedown done. I hope you find something that works!

    very best wishes

    so far so good
it has only been two days but aside from being tired, I am doing well. I even drove to a store and got a new cell phone today. I fear the worst is ahead, but I have made all my preparations ahead of time with great info from all the great people on this forum.

I have found one huge advantage over the bag - it now takes me seconds to poop, where with the bag it took a long time with cleanup and all. Still going pretty frequently and it is still all loose, but hopefully I will see changes here in the near future.

    I know the feeling...
Not "fire poop" per se, but developed an anal fissure that had me in tears every time I went to the bathroom and moaning in fetal position for several hours thereafter. I had it for a long time, as it was caused my chemo and wouldn't heal until I was done with chemo (one of the rare side effects of 5FU.) About 4 weeks after chemo ended, I could go without dread and tears.

you're going and that is a
you're going and that is a good thing. Just watch your diet and be prepared for an "oops" and you will be fine. The hardest part is coming to the realization that you will never be the same as you were before, but I am ok with it and so happy to get rid of the bag. It has helped my self esteem to be able to look in the mirror and just see the scars instead of a bag of poo hanging there. And one of the best parts, being able to sleep anyway that I want without the fear of the bag breaking open if I laid on it!
