Why does it seem to start
Why does it seem to start back gray? I am 36 and the entire top of my head is white or gray I can't tell. The sides and back are darker than before. Mine started growing back with the Taxol. I've been off chemo for 5 weeks now and it seems to be getting thicker (still bald in some patches...like the old hair is still in there hair blocking!) but I had my hubby trim it back with #2's last week because it was crazy! This is such a long process! I can't wait until the day I go without a scarf again! Although with the scarf I have noticed people are so much nicer at the checkouts and the best thing is people actually STOP at the pedestrian crossing going into stores. It's like they figure I have enough going on, they may as well stop for the cancer girl! But you know, I do often wonder if they are in their car thinking or kidding around with the passengers...."How many points for the cancer patient?"

    LOL!!!!!!!!!
    Tawny -

That line about the points made me laugh out loud!

    Thanks!

Thanks MamaG for the encouragement! I may just do it! I've been kidding around with my daughter (who is 8 and so well rounded) that I am going to pick her up one day from school in the car line and be scarf"less". She doesn't care! She is proud of me no matter what and she has never been embarassed by me. She is amazing! I have learned so much from her through all this! It's so sweet....she rubs my head every morning before she gets out of the car when I drop her off. Such a little pumpkin sweetie! Anyway, Cindy, I'm glad I made you laugh! You look so much like me in that picture! I keep looking at it thinking it's me! How old are you?

    I have pictures!
I can say it seems to take FOREVER, but all my friends seem to think it was fast!
I was so lucky that it started growing even before the chemo was done. I took 12 lower doses of Taxol so I guess that's why. It seemed to grow to about 1/2 inch and then stopped growing. Now it's about 1 1/2 inches long and I love it! I lost the wig as soon as all the baldness was gone. I sort felt like a freak, but no one stared at me (that I noticed).
I'll try to post the pix on my page for you to see.

Hope you are doing well with

my last chemo was march 18th
my last chemo was march 18th & my hair is starting to come in just a little. Something that I am trying is pre-natal vitamins. I remember when I was pregnant with my son the pre-natal vitamins made my hair grow sooo long sooo fast, or it could have been the pregnancy hormones, but im gonna give it a try. I haven't had my follow apt yet with my oncologist to decide if & what hormone replacement she want's to put me on. Something else I researched was side effects of tamoxifem, arimidex & several other hormones & one of the side effects of "SOME" of those hormones were either hair loss or they would slow down hair growth after chemo. So keep that in mind also. I had bilateral mastectomies, 8 rounds of chemo & just had my ovaries removed so Im undecided about starting on any hormones for that reason & just all the crazy side effects that come with em. I also use baby shampoo since when your hair does come in it's so baby fine & soft. I only wear my wig to work & wear my cute bandana scarves around the house or out to eat. Now that summer is approaching the warm weather will also help, at least thats when my hair grows the fastest. Take care & keep researching.

Hi Rene9, I was done with
Hi Rene9, I was done with chemo on 1/14 and it was about 3/14 that I shed the wigs and turbans. It's super short, but its doable, I couldn't stand the wigs anymore either. I have 4 A/C and 11 taxol. I'm 38 and my hair came back the same color (dirty dishwater blonde) no gray and no curls. I was hoping for curls. Anyhow, it feels like it takes forever to grow but it gets there, I'm going to try and change my picture on here so everyone can see :) Hang in there, it'll come!!

    Hi
Now, I have 1 more treatament on May 7th then I'll be watching and waiting! My oncologist told me yesterday to just let it grow, don't put anything on it and don't think about any chemicals until 6 months after hair growth. She said it will be baby fine at first though. She said whatever product line I am going to use or already use I can wash and condition with it now. Right now I'm thinking Creme of Nature, I'll need to research because I used to go to the hairdresser every 1 1/2 to 2 weeks so I've forgotten how to do it myself...But, I do want it to be healthy along with the rest of me.

    Heeeeey!
I finished chemo on Friday May 7th, so I will be watching for growth in the next couple of weeks. I just cannot wait to lose these hot wigs! I did finally decide on hair care products that have healthy ingridients. I did a lot of research. I will keep everyone updated on my progress!
