Hey Everyone,

As usual when it rains it pours, I may possibly be getting laid off from my employer, I have UnitedHealth Ins. I was wondering other than Cobra is there any other assistance for someone unemployed on Cobra about to have Robotic Da Vinci. I live in Florida.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated....I'm about freaked out right now....I'm TonyJr from the other blog Bewildered....Any guidance is greatly appreciated, I've come to realize as usual knowledge is powerful, so anyone out there please enlighten me as what other options I may have....

Thanks,
TonyJr...

Possible laid off before Davinci surgery / medical leave
Hi Tony, write email or submit a letter to Your HR immediately notify them that you have prostate cancer and need to be surgery -submit a medical leave from the date you have have surgery ASAP ( Request 2 months medical leave) They can't lay you off when you notify them you have severe health problem while working. They may lay you off after 2 months medical leave/ disability - that would be much better than before surgery. Make sure document all the notification, response to/from your HR - and get your doctor note and request the surgery date ASAP for notification. Good luck! talk to you later.

    laidoff/ medical leave
Tony, get the company request a medical leave and submit to comapany immedicately - the correct surgery time can be changed confirm later but now you know just fill estimated time frame for surgery and 8 weeks after surgery.Get a doctor/ hospital ( Biopsy report - any document that you have cancer and send to HR so you have all evident that HR know your situation.

Hope it will work! Have a nice day.

    Tony, John is right
Contact HR and ask for the medical leave. Most companies will not initiate a layoff when they know you have a major medical problem - those making the decision are, for the most part, decent human beings with compassion. Also, didn't the government pass some sort of legislation to subsidize COBRA benefits for something like 6 months or so?

Hang in there, this is all going to work out.
