BTW, I felt pretty confident that Koch would do all the important parts and the actual surgery...however, the bedside surgeon (in Koch's case..I believe he has a high confidence in the Fellow or maybe it was a resident over a Fellow can't remember now)is a pretty critical part of the team in that he's moving and creating room for the surgeon to see during the process...at least that is my limited understanding...as well as changing out all the instruments and cutting blades. I would recommend my surgeon to anyone....for many reasons...however, my result turned out good...what if it hadn't...I might hate him....This thing is a crap shoot at best...but finding the best surgeon and the one that you feel most confident in and turns you on is necessary because you need to do one thing for sure...go into it feeling very strongly about your choice and NEVER LOOK BACK OR QUESTION once you make the decision. Oh, my partner is a Critical Care Cardiology nurse for 25 years at a major hostpital here in indy and I took her with me for every appointment except the one to the surgeon I picked - she had to work the only time I could see him. So she met him the first time morning of my surgery...I didn't really want to do that to her..but I just felt too strongly that this is the guy for me...and when she and my mother met him that morning they loved him also. Especially as they had his follow-up debriefing right after the surgery while I was still in recovery. My surgery was at a fairly new Hospital in Carmel IN and the group my surgeon/urologist is in is Urology of Indiana.

I love sneaking in on these
I love sneaking in on these personal exchanges. Just for the record, Ind also has a new proton center that would be worth looking into. That being cored thing is not as wonderful as it sounds. My wife has told me not to refer to it as being cored, but I just see it that way. Surgeons don't like proton therapy, surgeons like surgery, so be careful about their advice on the topic.

And remember, surgury is so very permanent.

    Looking Back
Just a couple of nights ago I told Mrs Trew that if I could do this all over again, I would skip surgery and just do the radiaiton and shots. Then kill the doctor. Oops, can't kill the doc- like he said, I didn't do this to you, but it wasn't the doc who said that, it was the PA, Where I go I never get to see the doc- I just see the PA.

The point of all this is that there is a lot of second guessing that follows along behind whatever route you go. But I think for me, if I could have avoided surgery I woud have been better off. I lost important nerve bundles on one side, I had diffculty getting urinary control back after surgery, wetting your pads through is embrassing, and all in all, I would have liked to skip the surgery part.

That is just my opinion on all of this. But I am on Eligard and don't think right anyway.

    PC is just plain nasty.

I am sorry your husbands and you have to go through this.

You are correct about the Proton oppinions of the urologist/surgeon...however that is what I particularly liked about the Urology of Indiana group....my first guy was more than pleased to recommend any follow ups with any field other than surgery....in fact he said he used to send people to Loma Linda...but now in Bloomington Indiana there is a state of the art new Proton center....I did not check it out...maybe I should have...but hey...I'm virtually continent and erect...and with no mess...hmmm... is that good or bad? guess it depends...LOL Oh an "technically" cancer free now, at least in the prostate area.
