I know i have told you that my husbands stomach has been very painful lately and that he looked bloated. When i told the dr he said that with colostomy and illeostomy there can be pain.. But today it is bleeding ALOT out of the colostomy and it usually never puts out anything.. Could this be more of a cancer thing or more of a colostomy thing? I dont know who i should talk to. His oncol or his surgeon?? thanks everyone

Mel

    Hi Mel

I saw your post below with no responses, and just wanted to bump this to the top so that some valued members could respond. I don't have a colostomy, but of course, many in the commuity do and so I put this to the top so it could be seen and answered.

    Sorry we missed you earlier...

The one piece of advice that I could give you is talk to the BOTH of them - it can't hurt anything and you could probably do it by phone and save the office visit and charge.

What it sounds like is more of a "surgery" thing, so the surgeon might have more input, but talking to the surgeon and onc, gets it out there on record, and it allows for both doctors to know what is going on so they can stay in "lock-step" with your husband and be aware of his condition.

I know how unnerving it is to see blood in any form - it can make your mind race like crazy - and Cancer is normally the 1st thing we associate that with. But we all know how rough surgery can be and everything is not always seamless - there are complications sometimes. Let's hope that this is all there is - but do contact both doctors with your concern.

And maybe they can help him with the pain he is suffering - at least something to take the immediate edge off.

I don't know if we've been introduced yet, so very nice to meet you...I've read your posts and followed your story, but all the guys/gals already had you covered on the info. Today, I get to say Hi!

    Take care/Craig

    Both or ER
If ALOT of bleeding, you don't want to wait. Regardless of the cause, continued bleeding can be serious. If you can't get in touch with docs, go to ER.

Hoping that all of this is just a small bump in the road, and that causes of bleeding and pain can be solved quickly.

    I would see surgeon first
Surgeon should know most about stoma, tho if you're undergoing chemo as well, onc should be consulted as well. Usually, if I had/have a problem involving one doctor, he/she would usually so inform others, doctors being surgeon, radiologist, oncologist and my lung doctor....Have colostomy and any problems with it I'd go to surgeon first except when I think chemo is cause....Steve

    Hi everyone,
Not good news:( They did a CT and found several lessions on his liver and a blood clot in the main vein that filters the abs.. I really dont no what to say. The onc wants to meet with us in the morning and go over our options. I guess being done with chemo in March is over...We are both so sad.. thanks for being here for us

    loves,

So sorry for the not good news
Wish the news was better. At least you both now have 'reasons' for the problems he has been having.

Wishing you both the best possible outcome from your meeting with the onc.

    Take care.
