I am shaking so bad I can hardly type. Just got off the phone with onc. Dan's cancer is mets. Into lungs, aorta, lymph, etc. He suggested chemo. Dan is out of house with daughter. How can I tell him??? I'm so confused??1!! First they say no chemo because it will damage kidney, now that is our only option. Who do we believe or trust? We are in Wheeling. 50 miles from Pittsburgh. I know alot of you have seen Dr. at UPMC with great results. I don't even know if that is an option. Our drs here nephrologist and onc. think not. He has already been seen by the drs. at Cleveland Clinic(onc. and surgeon). If anyone has suggestions or info, Please let me know. Thanks!!!!!

    Come on Up!!
    Hi,

I think another opinion wouldn't hurt and you are not that far away from us. We see an DR.
Michael Gibson at the Hillman Cancer Center in the part of Pittsburgh known as Shadyside.

We are lucky that Al does not have any mets to his organs but they did settle in his back as you well know.

Here is the phone # (412) 692-4724. Another opinion can't hurt.
As far as telling your husband I would just tell him. He needs to know and make a decision
about how he want to proceed.

    Hope this helps.

    God Bless

    I agree
We also had my dad with Dr. Gibson, but live in Maryland and it was too hard to get back and forth with Winter here. You are so close, it's worth checking into. They have family houses there that you can stay in as well. It's always best to get another opinion. Hang in there and be strong. I know it's hard!!

    Go to Pittsburgh!
    Dear Weezie,
Sorry to hear your recent news. The shock of the word cancer, in several places is one of the most scary things you have to hear. Take a deep breath, collect yourself, and tell your husband and daughter when they get home. You have to be the strong one. If you are only 50 miles from Pittsbugh, Pa, I suggest you go there for a second opinion. Several people here are going there. Maybe you can hook up with Kathy and Al. I always recommend getting a second opinion. My dad's first opinion told him he had esophageal cancer and he has 3 to 6 mos to live. We were devastated. I made it a point to find out all i could about his cancer. The internet is great. I did research on different hospitals in our area, one that specializes in cancer. I found that 90 mins from our home was UVA in Charlottesville, VA. We went there, got a second opinion, loved the hospital and all of the drs and nurses. Now a year later....my dad has survived EC!! Now he has mets to his liver, but it is treatable. That is our next step in this cancer journey. Best of luck to you your husband and family. Hang in there, and remember that we are all here for you!

    Thanks!
Thanks for all your info and prayers! I feel much calmer now that I am not the only one who knows. I told Dan as soon as he got home. He knew! It is funny how he has sensed everything that the drs have told us. We see our onc. here tomorrow. Going to discuss about goin to Pittsburgh. I do have confidence in our onc because he is a family friend. Again, Thanks. Don't know what I would do without this board. Someone is always here to offer encouragement and hope! I will keep the faith!!!!You and your loved ones are forever in my prayers.
