beginning the journey

My husband of 12 years collapsed last week at a local Subway. He insisted it was just the flu but he went to the doctor anyway. They took blood and his AST came back extremely high. They wanted him to have a CT scan which we did last week and we just got the results back yesterday. He has a spot on his liver and we are going tomorrow at 9:00 to see a specialist for internal disease. Of course we are scared to death because we were given the advice to pray for a benign tumor on the liver. They have also prepared us for the fact he will more than likely have a liver biopsy. I am sure you all have already experienced friends not looking at you, not knowing what to say and being very uncomfortable with your fear and anger over what is happening to you. I have no family to help and support me and my husband's family is from another country so we are really on our own with this now. My husband is only 35 and we have three children and we don't know how to talk to them about this. If anyone has any advice for us on what to do next, what questions to ask the doctor or how to respond to our kids about this? What is the next step we need to take because both of us are in a state of shock and just walking in a daze. I would be so grateful.

    Hello and Welcome. Sorry no one has responded to you. I am new to this board. My dad, Ray, 71, was just diagnosed with liver cancer. He will be starting two types of chemo within the next few weeks. We are scared as well. My dad beat esophageal cancer in 11/08, now it has spread to his liver. He just had a blocked bile duct. Had a stent put in to drain it. Also had to have a stent put in his esophagus to open it more. The chemo for the liver cancer is very strong. We are afraid of the side effects. We must stay positive and keep fighting. We beat this once, we can beat it again!! Keep us updated. I am sure a lot has gone on with you and your husband since October.

    I was diagnosed with anal cancer in April 2008. Had 1/5 of my lung removed on New Years Eve 2009, for a non smokers lung cancer. Now this New Years Eve was told my anal cancer had spread to my liver. I am starting two types of chemo as well. I am 51 years old....and hoping that 3 is truly a charm, and I will beat this one too! I will keep you both in my prayers!!!!

    I am sorry to hear about your husband. My father has primary liver cancer. It's an ugly cancer, but we are praying for the best. I will pray that the tumor is benign for you both. Keep the faith close to your heart and hope for the best. I know those words are weak when you are going through something like this, but if you need to talk, feel free to get in touch with me.
