    I'd love to, but...
My mother&father-in law does all the cooking. My taste is going away again this weekend and might be back by then. I bring green bean casserole and broccoli casserole. Their side dishes are something right from the can. Gourmet cooks they're not. I always offer to cook but they decline that idea. I usually make my own big dinner the day after. I love turkey, cranberry sauce, sweet potato, dressing, and gravy leftovers. I love oyster dressing. Can't wait.

    Re,
How nice of your friend. It will be an adventure for you. I hope you enjoy discovering their traditions. Maybe you will find a new dish that will become a must have. My favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner is the fruit salad. Lots and lots of fresh fruit and real whipped cream with chopped walnuts on top. Yummy. My grandma used to be the taste tester for the whipped cream, then mom was, and now I determine the sweetest of it. I remember the first year I helped to whip the cream and I was working those beaters and mom said if I whipped it any longer it would turn to butter. We laughed so hard. I love the memories. They make me smile. I think I love the fruit salad most because it is such a happy memory.
Enjoy you day, everyone. I am going to.

    Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Happy Thanksgiving to all. I have a lot be thankful for. I almost lost my mom this past June. It took some time, but she is doing well. I really don't know what I would have done without her. She has been taking care of me during my chemo sessions. I am grateful for that.

Because of mom's illness, she was not able to work. I had to locate a social worker, get her to the social worker, fill out tons of paperwork to try and get her on Medicaid and apply for disability. I had to do all of this while dealing with chemo side effects and working. But, it paid off. We did get her on Medicaid which meant that her 700 dollars spent each month on her medicines would now be picked up by Medicaid instead of coming out of our pockets. She also has been approved for disability and the social workers have worked with her to get almost 95% of her $80,000 hospital bill. My mom is taken care of and home with her kitties. She is home, well, and happy and I am thankful for that.

I have been struggling to deal with chemo and work. My boss is understanding until I make mistakes or take longer to do something. It is not like I am a slacker. My chemo brain hits me when I am tired. Since my red cells are low, I am extremely fatigued so my chemo brain is surfacing on a more regular basis. I need my job to keep my insurance up. I need my job because I am in debt with my cancer bills and my mothers illness. Just yesterday, I received word that the hospital will take care of 90% of my hospital bill. I had a lot of paperwork to submit and they did turn me into a collection agency but that is all in the past.

I am also thankful that even though it is painful and difficult, I am still on my path to recovery. I am alive.

My point is that this is probably one of the most special Thanksgiving Days for me because of what has transpired this past year to get me here. I also have much to be thankful for. I will be resting inbetween helping mom prepare a quiet turkey dinner for us. At times it has just been the two of us and so I thought it would be fitting that it should be the two of us celebrating Turkey Day.

I hope everyone has a joyous Thanksgiving and experiences much fun and love from those they are with.

    Pat,
It is so easy to focus

    Pat,
It is so easy to focus on the downside of all of this, but you have risen above that and are able to see how much you have to be thankful for. This is so good for your mental and physical well being. I try to do that but sometimes I slide. Then I remind myself that my philosophy is Not whether the glass is half full or half empty but that I am just so darn glad I have a glass. It is heartwarming to hear your mom is doing well and that you are also doing well. As far as the work goes, I hope your boss can be more understanding of the chemo brain issues. It is hard for someone who has not experienced this to realize it is very real. I pray for continued positive motive forward and am happy to hear that many of the financial issues are resolving. One less stress.

Just bringing a dish to pass...
Just like every year, we go to my husband's mom's house or one of his siblings...we bring a dish and eat like a pig! I have only had one chemo, still have my taste buds and plan on getting full! HA!

We will have a full house on
We will have a full house on Thursday. One of my sisters is flying in from Portland, all of the kids and our exchange student will be home, and a special family we traditionally share Thanksgiving with is coming as well. I normally don't enjoy cooking that much, but on Thanksgiving everyone pitches in - it's my favorite family and friends holiday. Later, on the weekend, we go up in the mountains and find our Christmas trees.

    Happy Thanksgiving to All
I must be a gluten for punishment. I'm having 30 people here for Thanksgiving, but the nice part is that everyone contributes. I do a turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce and gravy, and everyone else brings the rest. My daughters and son will help to set everything up and clean up, and hopefully (?) I'll have an easy day. It's become a tradition to have Thanksgiving at Grandma's, so who am I to change tradition. Anyway, this will be my only holiday entertaining since I'm having reconstructive surgery on Dec. 16th and I plan to lay low for awhile after that.

I hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and I want to thank all of you for who you are, some of the most courageous and strong women I have ever known. Happy Thanksgiving! Connie

    We are going to hubby's
We are going to hubby's sister's for Thanksgiving. So, I just have to bring a dish. Looking forward to it.
