When my husband first started his chemo they had a hard time finding his veins, the drugs burned going in and were hardening his veins. He decided after his second round he needed to get a port put in. Not wanting to scare our 5 year because dad had to go to the hospital my husband decided to tell him he was going to the hospital to become robo dad. The day we went to pick him up from the hospital my son went into the room, looked strangely at his dad and said "Are you Robo Dad now?" My husband smiled at him, showed him where the port was put in and told him anytime he wants now, he can turn into Robo Dad. My son thought that was really cool!

    Ports are great
My husband got one last April and was told he would have it for up to a year and half, so it is great like William all they have to do is flush it every 6-8 weeks after you don't use it so much. Take care of him, and know we are all here.

My husband was soooo glad he
My husband was soooo glad he had his port put in, his is also the Bard port, like Williams. The doctors at Mayo recommended he get one before he started treatment, but his Oncologist here in town discouraged it. He said the risk for infection was greater than the benefits of it. He wishes he would have listened to the Mayo doc and had it put in right away. It is so much easier. Even at our trip to the ER went smoother, no need for IV. They were able to draw blood from it as well as administer fluids. Very convenient.
