Lesion found in Lung at post surgery check up

Hi, everyone,

I found a tumor in my right kidney during my regular check up last year and then had a partial nephretomy at the end of October, 2008 to remove the 2.2 cm tumor and DX T1a renal cell carcinoma, coventional clear cell type with Fuhrman Grade 2. During my post surgery check up in April this year. A CT scan done on my lung found a 4.2 mm lesion in my right lung. I m so scared now that the cancer has metastasised to my lung. My doctor said it may be a scar or something benign but nothng can be done at the moment (coz it is too small and a biopsy cannot be done now) but to wait for another CT scan half year later to have another serial size assessement.

Does anyone have similar experience to share ?

I try not to think about it at the moment but still cannot concentrate on anything else.

    Yes, been there.
    On my regular CT in January 09, a new spot was discovered in the liver. CT in March-no growth, but another lesion was noticeable, so had a follow-up ultrasound. The lesion was determined to be an hemangioma (like a blood filled birth mark). Third CT in May -so growth of spot, so am scheduled for my next one in Sept.
    My original kidney cancer in 06 had mets to the liver and a set of nodes, so had all that stuff out. More mets to nodes in 07 & 08. Just call me the gutless wonder.
    I know it's hard not to worry, but the wait for the next CT is about all you can do.

    Hi Raymond and Donna,

    I'm new to this board. I have been trying to find similar mRCC survivors, learn from the people who are able to manage it and live peacefully with it by fine tuning their immune systems. Really, they are rare and hard to find. I'm a rookie to mRCC club, but I'd like to share my humble experiences with others.

    16 months ago I was diagnosed RCC, clear cell, T2N0M1. The whole left kidney was removed plus a piece of left lung wedged out. The size of the major tumor was 9cm and the one met to the lung was 1.2cm. A radical nephrectomy was done in May 2008 followed by a 2nd surgery to remove the lung nodule immediately after biopsy was done one month later.

    No medical treatments afterwards was done on me because both the Dr. and I thought there's no target to treat and for subsequent evaluation. What I have done since was to come up with a list of possible factors that I think that might have triggered this problem during my life of history (I'm 50 years old now) and correct them as much as I can. Both of my parents are still active in their 80's, no cancer at all. So, this is less likely generic related. I adjusted my lifestyle and adopted to a dietetic regimen that I think is appropriate. I have been a runner for about 8 years and want to keep it going as long as I can. I have finished two marathons since my surgery and a new one is coming up in 3 weeks.

    The latest post surgery check-up a couple months ago, July 2009, showed a new nodule (0.9cm) reoccurred in the right lung. So, I decided to seek something else other than having another piece of my lung cut away. There happened to be a chance to enroll into my hospital RAD001 clinical trial, and I applied. But, I flunked its screen test, done this month, because my new chest CT scan report showing the nodule actually shrank to 0.8 cm. This actually is a good news, right? it seems like something is working somehow behind the scene to cause it to shrink, I'm hoping for the best this is true and not the CT scan resolution/measurement issue. I want to do the next right thing right which is doing nothing, I think, for a couple of month before next CT scan assessment.

    I'm like Raymond, the current nodule is too small to be able to taken any meaningful bio samples and not 100% sure. On the other hang, I am also worried about biopsy may risk the cells to leak out to spread. I suspect this might have happened last year to trigger this reoccurrence.

    Donna, from what I have read on this board, it seems you have not been on any med program to treat RCC since your first surgery, am I right? You seem holding up pretty good compare to others taking med treatment programs.

    Trust in self-healing
    Raymond,

    No matter what treatment I decide to take or going in for another surgery, I still believe in the body self-healing. So, what do I need to do extra to help? I'm a engineer, so simplicity is my approach to solve this somewhat unknown problem.

    First, I compile my list of possible causing factors and eliminate them all. Like one example is to get rid of the dental amalgam fillings.

    Secondly, expedite the body "detoxification". Eat whole food with as much verity as possible. Avoid processed food and high temperature cooking stuff, like deep fry and BBQ. Drink good water with a lot of outdoor clean air exercise to sweat out. And, to have good quality sleep at nights.

    I consider this is a long term deal - until my years end. They say RCC tumor is a slow grower, I figure that mine had been inside of me for about 10 years. So bucking the downward spiral trend should take at least the same amount of time, if done correctly.
