Deodorant, Soap, Shampoo, etc.

I just found out that Walmart carries the brand "Tom's" in deodorant & soap. The deodorant is aluminum free. Are any of you using pure brands that you would recommend? Thanks.

    Deoderant crystal
    I used to use the deoderant crystal, and it worked great until i developed an allergic reaction to it. It gave me a horrible rash that took months to get rid of. I don't know if this is common or not. I have also heard of people using fresh lemon juice as a deoderant. I've never tried that, but i have tried the Tom's, and it didn't work as far as killing the bacteria that causes odor. I hate using antipersperants, but i hate stinking even more. I go for as long as i can without using it after a shower, and when i smell the tiniest bit of odor, i wash with soap and water, and then put on the antipersperant. If you try the lemon juice, please let me know if it works. I've just never put the effort into trying it.

    I agree with you, Krista.
    I tried the Tom's deodorant yesterday and agree that it didn't work as far as killing the bacteria that causes odor. Back to the drawing board!

    I have a mineral salt block. It works pretty good, google mineral deodorant, there are lots of sites to buy it and at varying prices. It does last a long time, you wet it and rub it on. Pam

    Some people have linked the aluminum in antiperspirants to breast cancer. My husband was concerned enough to tell me to stop using it and just use "deodorant" without the antiperspirant. It's about impossible to find a women's deodorant that doesn't also have the antiperspirant with aluminum. Speed Stick for men has it both ways and my husband uses just the deodorant and it does work for him. I, however, don't want to smell like men's cologne, so I set out to find a women's version, but all the women's versions have the antiperspirant/aluminum. I've tried a couple of natural versions- Tom's and also Herbal Clear- both of which can be found in Wal Mart. They work better than using nothing, but definitely not as well as the antiperspirants.
    So, now what I do is alternate. On really hot days, I use the antiperspirant and try to go without or use the natural stuff on days I'm just at home or when i'm not as likely to sweat.

    The FDA certainly hasn't officially linked the alumunum to cancer, but then that doesn't really mean anything, does it?? (money, pressure, etc!)

    Yes
    I have also heard it being liked to other things too. It builds up in our bodies I guess. I like you Lisa see it for men and I bought it for my son when he was in gym class. I use it very little and try to use a lotion like from Bath and Body Works on the days when I am not really hot. Wish they would come up with something. Paula G.

    Lizzy and anyone else who is interested,
    I use Arm & Hammer (like the baking soda) deodorant.It is both Aluminum and paraben free. Seems to work well for me and much less expensive than Toms. I think I got it at Walmart.

    My mother in-law had
    My mother in-law had sensitive skin and used baking soda instead of deodorant. She just bought it from the baking aisle and put it in a containter. She used a powder puff to apply. She always smelled fresh.

    I have always been the type
    I have always been the type to sweat alot, there is no way I could use the aluminum free stuff, I really doubt it would work for me. Doesn't everything cause everything these days, hard to know what to believe.

    I didn't know Burt's Bees made a deodorant either. I will definitely look for it and try it. Others of you who end up trying it- I'd be interested in knowing if you think it works or not. I've been so hot the last two days that I used the antiperspirant instead of the natural deodorant made from lichens and aloe- which is okay, but doesn't work that well. Burt's Bees also makes a lotion, I guess, which someone in the chemo room yesterday swears by. I'll have to try that too.
