Hi, I'm Bindi, recently diagnosed with chondrosarcoma in left thigh. Currently awaiting final results to tell me how bad the cancer is. Doctor has suggested complete hip and femur replacement. This is a primary cancer with no apparent spread but understand can spread very quickly to lungs. Wondering how successful an operation like this can be and what is the quality of life after such an operation. I am 58, fit, healthy and very independant in every other way, extremely worried may become a burden on family.

    Hello
    Hi Bindi,

My name is Brenda and I was diagnosed with a 10cm Chondrosarcom in my right femur at the end of June. In July I had 12 cm of femur removed and reconstructed. I have been unable to walk for the past 5 weeks and have needed a walker to get around and my husband to take care of me. My surgeon told me at least 6-8 weeks until I could start walking and then 6-12 months for a full recovery. I have to say that being fit and healthy will really help with the recovery. I taught fitness classes and was training for a 1/2 marathon when I recieved my diagnosis and, while it hasn't been a piece of cake, my recovery has gone a lot smoother than my surgeon expected.

Have your recieved final results? When is your surgery date?

Thankyou for your reply, yes my final results are in, doctor is doing partial hip, partial femur replacement with muscle and tissue removal as well. It has been diagnosed as low grade, slow growing, with no apparent spread.
My surgery date is 24th August.
I am otherwise fit and healthy but not obviously as fit as you, but I am determined to get the best result possible, have been told will most likely always have a limp and need a walking stick but perhaps this is a small price to pay. But, who knows may get better result. I wish you well with your recovery. Interested to hear how you are going.

    Chondrosarcoma
    Hello!
I just had surgery last Thursday to remove a tumor. The doctors told me it was benign, but i received a call yesterday telling me the biopsy was done and it's Chondrosarcoma. This is now the third time I have had to battle cancer. At the age of 19 I had bladder cancer and it was removed. When I was 29 I had a partial nephrectomy as I was diagnosed with Renal Cell Cancer. So, here I am again 7 years later with a new cancer. I am so scared because this involves your limbs.

I am having a hard time getting around on crutches. I have no balance and have almost fallen several times. Thank goodness I have my husband taking care of me. I had a gut feeling it was cancer, but everyone was hoping this would be the one time it wouldn't be cancer. Whatever your body tells you, follow through with it. I wish you well on your sugery and recovery.

Surgery for Chondrosarcoma in left thigh
Hi, had the surgery to remove chondrosarcoma in left thigh six weeks ago, must admit surgery was bigger than I expected, but how would I know what to expect. Had partial hip and full femur replacement, am doing okay with walking frame, I would find crutches hard to manage, hope to graduate to walking stick soon.
To Chrislupo, don't despair, you are young and I am sure will recover, remember, positive thoughts only, I do know how hard it is at times but what choice do we have.
Have not got final biopsy results yet but doctors say they think they have it all, but of course there are never any guarantees but I will not dwell on that aspect of it and intend to deal with anything when and if it occurs. All the best to you.

In april this yr my husband

In april this yr my husband found out that he has low grade chondrosarcoma which is not very big but doctor removed it but due to mistake of doctors they didnt take it out and evenually my husband fell one day and broke his femur bone and that time he airlifted to vienna where his tumor finally took out but doctor said it may take long time for recovery as my husband takes blood thinner also due to his hereditry clotting factor which slowed down bone healing process. He is using crutches and he is going to have his 2nd follow up after surgery within 3 months .We are very scared he is just 35 and from last yr it all started and he is still having strange pains in all over his body,Numbness, twitching of muscles also started .Overall he looks weak not improved after his surgery .He has problem with digestion also .I Would be highly grateful .If any of you share your current situation. Is there any recurrence after first tumor removal surgery .Here doctor in vienna did curretage if its low grade and put titanium rod if bone is broken and need support. My husband leg looks weak now and i feel he is more slim.kindly share your experience.I m depressed and i love my husband alot and want him to stay with me forever. I need to know is it possible if i keep checking through PET scan or any other scan that everythg is going fine.Because in cancer we should take xtra care. My husband was very good in health before this diagnosis and doctors are just money makers they dont even findout whats wrong in my husband body .My husband himself found out about his situation through internet and reading medical journal in deep .Pls help me i m mother of 3 and i just wanted to save my husband as he is my life .Many thanks
