    Hey....
....We'll give you a dollar for every thought in your head, just post on, we're here to help you, shoot, I'm a newbie too all this as well, and still ask alot of questions..haha.

The soreness does go away, I promise, you'll be so glad you got it.. I put that lidocaine cream on it real thick and then put Saran cling wrap on it, about an hour before I go, so it takes effect, and all you do when they stick the needle is tell you to take a deep breath, and boom! it's in! you don't feel it in, since the port is like a drum-like thing, which they pierce your skin to just get to the port, I have a dual one, where there are 2 lines they can access..

I was scared to death of my first chemo, but it's not bad as you think it's going to be..chemo has come a long way, my nurses give me snacks, water, anything, I have my own room so far, for the first and second one, where I was able to watch tv, read a book, and it usually took 2 hours for the Irinotecan drip, a 1/2 for the Avastin, and she does a 5 minute push of the 5-Fu before sending me home with cool looking fanny pack that I hide under my big coat so no one can see...lol...

    OH NO!!
Brightly colored neon Fanny packs???? they still make those?? oh my, I guess my ugly black Walgreens pack is a godsend...I would have died if they gave me something like in a bright pink or green! Hey are you on Facebook or myspace or anything? pm me and I can add you on, I'll send you plenty of things from the 80's on Facebook (and you know I have a soft spot for that era).

I can't believe how good I still actually feel, we'll see how it tonight to tomorrow, it seemed to have gotten worse then, but hopefully not with this new anti-nausea..I drink alot of Chocolate Ensure, I find those yummy. I have never even tasted a fresh mango, but I think it was Vicki on here who said cantalope has natural Emend in it, and to just suck on it and it will curb the nausea, I do love any kind of berries though!

    Great!
Glad you're port experience was an easy one. Where is your port? Mine was on my chest, practically right over my heart, and its installation was one of the most painful surgeries I've ever had! I've never taken the pain pills before, because I don't like the feeling, and they tend to not do much for pain -- they just seemed to make it so that you didn't care if it hurt or not! But I begged for pain pills after the port installation, so it's great news that yours is only a little uncomfortable.

They put it in a few weeks early so it can heal up a bit before the chemo actually starts. And I didn't have to do anything to mine before each chemo because they use a tiny pin-prick of some deadening agent (lidocaine, I think?) that made the needle insertion completely painless. All I felt was a little pressure as the pushed the needle in -- just felt like someone was lightly touching it.

The good news is that we live in an age when curing cancer is so commonplace. The journey to get to the cure can be a bit of a hassle, but it's well worth the trip! Hang in there -- I wish I'd known about this forum when I was going through it! Just had my 3-year follow-up colonoscopy Tuesday, and the report is that there was no sign of cancer. Wa-hoo!!

    vitamins
I think there are pros and cons, but my onc told me not to use them. She said the chemo needs to kill cells not build them up. Ask your doc about it.
