CT Results

After completing 4 rounds of FOLFOX the lesions in my liver (4) have all decreased on all dimensions by between 30 and 50%. The largest went from 6.2 by 4.2 cm to 3.6 by 2.6. The smallest went from 1.2 by 1.2 to "sub-centimeter." The colon tumor also had a 50% decrease since my original colonscopy and CT scan.

Since the scan I have had one more round of FOLFOX and I have an appointment next week to meet the liver surgeon. My oncologist at MSK presented me to the tumor board last week after seeing the results of the scan which she said "look great." She said that an initial good response to chemo is prognostic so I keep my fingers crossed and keep saying my prayers that I will be a long-term survivor.

I am praying that the liver surgeon tells us next week that there is no complication to resecting my liver (that the lesions are all resectable). I will also have an hepatic pump placed during the liver surgery for adjuvant chemo.

The concern I have (aside of course from the great big C word in the room) is that there was a 3 mm nodule in my subpleural lung. It is "unchanged and non-significant" according to the comparison of the original CT scan. My onco said not to worry about it as she felt it would have gone down as well based upon my tumor response to chemo. Anyone else have this happen to them? Did a lung nodule stay the same and turn out to be nothing? Or turn out to be something? She said that regardless, they would just go in and "pluck it out" and it would not interfere with liver surgery. Easy for her to say!!

So I ask for your prayers that the liver surgeon gives a "good to go" at our meeting on Monday. I appreciate prayers so much as I truly believe that God can heal me completely.

Thanks,
Amy

    sounds good
    Hi,
It sounds like you are responding well to the chemo. I responded well too, but did have a few subcentimeter lung nodules that "remained stable", according to the CT scan radiologist report. I guess that's good- I, of course, was hoping that they had all gone away, but "stable" is also good. It could be possible that it's not cancerous, but that's why they should continue to watch it carefully.

Hang in there- you're close to the halfway point!

    Blessings,
    Lisa

    Wonderful news...
Amy: It sounds like you are on your way to a liver resection and cure. As for the lungs, I had 15 nodules removed, of which 9 were cancerous. The remainder were benign nodules. Good luck. Monica

    My favorite vacations...
    Kathleen,

My favorite vacations have been to Hawaii. We love it there. We went 9 years ago for our honeymoon and went to Maui and the Big Island. 4 years later I wanted to go again to conceive our first child. That trip we went to Kauai (sp?) and Maui again. Our favorite island is still Maui. I told everyone we were going to Hawaii to get ourselves a baby. Our son was born 9 months later!

For his first birthday we had a Hawaiian theme and I have always told him he came from Hawaii....

Our daughters get to be told they came from NJ.... :)

    Thanks for your post
I am praying that this nodule is something quite benign. I researched online other causes. One interesting cause I did find was taxoplasmosis. When I was pregnant with our first child I was told not to clean the cat's liter pan. They did a taxo test on me and apparently I already had the antibodies so I had had taxoplasmosis exposure sometime in the past. I read that it can cause nodules in the lungs so that's my hope. Where I picked up the taxo from, I have no idea....maybe from playing in the dirt growing up as I make sure my husband always cleans the liter pan.....

    good place
    Hi,
So glad that you like Hawaii. It is truly a beautiful place with a wonderful spirit. **** is really looking forward to getting home and swimming in the ocean. He loves to take the dogs to the beach and swim with them. I know that he will have to take it easy but I also know it will be good for his spirit.
    Aloha,
    Kathleen
