    """ HOPE """"
Thanks for the offer, but we live in E Central Illinois. That is ever so kind of you. Things like that from this group really touches our hearts.

I'll tell Hop to add that "E" on the end of his name.

    Thanks again. You're very special.

    DELAY ----KAY
No problem. Don't worry about it. Thank you for the warm wishes and the thought. Means so much.
Surgery is day after tomorrow and need less to say, we're both feeling very anxious. Our 4 sons will be there with us.........We're drawing strength and support from them also...Had to laugh...it's so hard to get all 4 of them together at the same time in the same place, but Hop didn't have to go to extremes to do it. LOL

Thanks again. I'll have my lap top with me and will post updates several times a day probably on www.caringbridge.org/visit/galehopkins

Praying so hard that they do not have to do the Colostomy.

Hop and Marygale...you are in our thoughts and prayers. We will be with you in thought and spirit the day after tomorrow. Having gone through this and having two sons ...we know how you are feeling. I hope and pray that he does not have a colostomy but Frank had to have one and it really is not a big deal to deal with. The important thing is to get the cancer and beat the beast. Life with a colostomy is okay ..it does not keep Frank from doing anything. It only changed his way of dress. He always use to tuck his shirts in and now I buy him shirts that go out. It helps to camoflague the colostomy bag. I help him put on the seal and bandage everytime. Again you both are in our prayers. We will look to your caringbridge site. My husband's site is www.caringbridge.org/visit/frankproctor
    God be with you both.

    ANNA ------SURGERY
    Dear Anna:
Thank you so much for your kind words of encouragement and uplifting message. We both appreciate it. I've gone over and over how Hop can do things he did before IF he has to have a colostomy, but it just doesn't sink in. So....I have enough material and research laying around here, I think when he's ready to read it, he will. It's just that it seems the closer it gets to Wed. Jan. 21, the quieter we both become...........and I've kept a positive attitude going around here since Dec. 16.......But, to both of us, it just feels like we're on the "BIG COUNTDOWN" and we're not ready.
I pray they don't find anything more and there will be no need for a colostomy, but if there is, we'll make it.........With God's help and people like yourself......we WILL make it. I'm going to visit Frank's caringbridge.
    Thanks again,
    Big hugggggs,

God has carried you this far and He will continue to do so.....Please don't build your hopes up just to not have a colostomy because it happened to me and it was a great fall for me , a real letdown. because I had counted on not having an ostomy, but it happened and I am fine with it. The cancer is the concern, not how we look. Im still a sexy devil with a sack on my pack, and thats just the way it is....But seriously, don't dwell on the fact that the ostomy is the end, its a new beginning. I have one and seriously would rather have it than a reversal done. At least now I know when I got it all.........hehe.....My God and my prayers will be with all of you and especially Hop before during and after surgery ..Keep us posted...God Bless you both.........

Oh Buzz......you are just too real and always seem to have just the right things to say at the right times. I have to admit I shed a tear when reading your post. YOU ARE SO, SO RIGHT...An Ostomy is not the main concern....or shouldn't be.....THE BEAST is.....For about 3 weeks now, I've felt a sense of calm and I know it is God and the Holy Spirit working...It's just that today, I'm a little down and I think Hop is too..........I HAVE to convince him that if he does have to have an ostomy, it's not the end of the world.....as he is feeling it is......and I'm going to use your words......"It's a new beginning". Thank you for enlightening me today and I'll pass it on to Hop. He's at the hospital now having a stress test done. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH..

    God be with you always,

Now.....after surgery begins a new life for you both, he will go through a 1000 emotions as you will also, but understand that you can only do so much, he is the one that will have to go through this, along with your help but you have to have your time as well, even if just for a minute while he sleeps or rests. Take you some you time and go outside in the fresh air for a little bit and cry, laugh, giggle, but take the you time as well as being his caregiver. It is probably harder on the caregiver than the patient. You in order to help him have to keep yourself healthy also, so don't feel bad when you have a snack knowing he can't or drink something that might make him sick, but take care of you and Hop will reap the benefits as well as you will...It is a completely new road for you both and we're right here to help you along the whole path....We love ya'll...God Bless ya .......

    Praying for you!
Just wanted to let you know you are both in my thoughts and prayers as Wednesday gets closer. I will echo what the others said about the colostomy. My husband had a temporary ileostomy. I think he was more afraid of having a colostomy bag than he was of the cancer. That was his biggest fear when he was diagnosed. He handled it all so well. Even though his bag was just temporary ( 7 months), it turned out to be no problem for him. I know this whole nightmare is very scary. I hope we can ease your mind about the colostomy. Of course we pray that he doesn't have to have one, but I pray even more that he can get rid of the cancer beast forever! God Bless!

Thanks, gal. You're absolutely right.......It's the colostomy that's the big thing in Hop's mind right now instead of getting rid of the cancer. I may have to bring that up. We need to fight the BEaST...not the possibility of an ostomy. THANKS....

Thank you also for your concerns and prayers. I can actually feel everyone's prayers giving us strength......does that sound silly??? I really do.

I'll try to get updates on CSN, but you can always check Hop's caringbridge at:

    Aches and Pains
There is no reason for a cancer patient to have any aches or pains at all... My rad/chemo dr says if you hurt tell me , I have a medicine that will make it go away no matter what it is I can find something to make it go away. We go through enough without having constant, chronic pains........Morphine after surgery for 2 days and then Lortabs were my friend then nothing now.....but if you need them get them...... thats what they are there for........God Bless ya

    UPDATE ON THE CAPTAIN
    Hello everyone.

Please don't think I've forgotten about any one of you because I've not posted. I think of you so often and prayers still go out for you all.

We're now living pretty much "back to normal" life. Hop works in the yard, He got the mowers, weeders, etc. ready for the season, goes to our son's house and tinkers in the garage w/ a jeep.....over to another son's house and fixes things that need attention.

Our only problem now is trying to get some kind of assemblense of normalacy with the bowel movements. It's either constipiation or the other. I'm so proud of him for trying different things............and he's now learned that if he's (or we ) going somewhere, what to eat and not eat beforehand. I'm afraid the inconsistancy is going to now be a way of life for him and maybe we just have to accept that. GOD has been so good to us...no colostomy ....Cancer-free. Our own 3 miracles.........So, we try not to complain too much.

Seems, although our journey was tough....so many of your's is so much tougher ....I implore you to KEEP THE FAITH and, as Buzzard said....the "Rope has been thrown to you, so HANG ON...AND HANG ON TIGHT"

If you get a chance read Frank Proctor's journal. What a testimony to God's love.

Our prayers and thoughts go out to you and always know that we haven't forgotten any of you..We're just so b usy living a life that we were afraid we wouldn't have.

    Love ya all to pieces,
    Marygale and Hop

    Such a nice surprise
Its so great to hear from you and to know that you and Hop are doing so well. I sure do miss hearing from you. But I am thankful that God saw you through that rough time and blessed the two of you. I am on my 7th round and only have one more to go. Then I pray that the beast will be gone forever! Please keep me in your prayers!

    God bless you two

    Hey MaryGale & Hop!
Good to hear from you! I am so glad things are going well for you. I am still battling, but only have 2 more chemo rounds. Fingers crossed that's the end. And I can relate to the bathroom issues. It's one or the other for me all the time...trying to 'normalize' with diet now. It's a little better, but until chemo is over, I am not really in charge.

Give Hop a big old hug from me! And take care of YOU as well.

    Many hugs and prayers, Vicki
