Does anyone have experience with Sodium Bicarbonate as an alternative cancer treatment? I would love to get your take on this.
Thanks,

    Would love to hear more
    Hi Jo-
I haven't heard anything about bicarb but have been hearing good things about vitamin C drips after chemo. It supposedly attacks the cancer growing cells and stops the formation of new cancer cell growth.
    I'll keep checking your posting.
    Hope all is well there.

    Hi and thanks
    Hi Diane.

Hope you are coming through treatment Ok.

I will check out the vitamin C drip.

I found that the Sodium Bicarbonate has made some Quack Lists, but you just never know.

    Thanks,

    Hanging in There
    Hi Jo-
I'm having my ups and downs with treatment. Lately, more downs. My body just doesn't seem to handle the chemo very well. I've decided I am going to take some control. I am scheduled tomorrow for my 2nd set of scans to take a look at the monsters inside. I am a little nervous because I've developed pain on my right side now (liver). I guess it's normal to think every pain is cancer. Anyway, I am going to tell the doctor he has to adjust the strength of the chemo drugs. I've had bloody noses,2 admissions for rapid heart rate, loss of sensation in my extremities and now a low count which is preventing me from getting chemo. My last set of chemo was 9/18. Is this all that's left in life?
I read some information regarding the bicarb after I saw your posting. Sounds dangerous- Afterall, it makes roaches explode- ha-ha. It is really hard to make sense out of some of the stuff I read. It's like anti oxidants. If you really think about it, why would they be good to use during a bout with cancer? Non- oxygen-that makes cancer happy. Who knows.
I did get a cure from someone at work- 1 liter of honey 3 aloe leaves 3 tbs vodka .
Sounds like it needs more vodka to work- haha.
Hope all is well with you. Sorry for the whining!

Oh Diane. It is so good to hear from you, whining or not (I have had my turns at whining too).

I think I had the same chemotherapy drugs as you (Carboplatin and Taxol), but given in weekly doses; three weeks on, one week off. It was actually very mild going in. Over time, it felt like it accumulated and I was swimming in my own urine. It was just yucky. I had the nose bleeds, but no the other major symptoms.

My doctor had offered optionally four to six treatment rounds. I made four. He also said that more treatments are better, in that the chemotherapy drugs work on active cells. The more time in treatment, the more time the cancer has to becomes active and the chemotherapy drugs can work on them. On the other hand, I asked him, "If this were you, would you go the two extra rounds?" He said, "No."

The bicarb treatment made a few different Quack Lists. I would take the vodka treatment anyday. Happily! :)

Good luck with your scans. Please let me know how it turns out.

    Your "About me"
Sheese- I just read your postings. Good idea venting on the about me page. Jo, you're my hero. I don't know that I would be able to go through all of the mental and physical abuse.
My lung CA has crippled me. I can't even vaccumm anymore, never mind hike. I must really be a baby about this whole bad joke.
I had to stop the carboplatin during my 2nd treatment- My heart rate went to 230 bpm. I am now on gemzar and navolbine (spelling doesn't matter :)) I haven't had a treatment since 9/15 due to low white counts, rapid heart beat and just simply just not feeling well. I go see the doctor to get my scan results on monday. I'll keep you posted. A bit nervous because I've developed pain on my right side from my arm lymphnodes to my liver.
How's Spike? How did you add me to your list?
Well, I'm supposed to be working.
-Be safe and I'll be in touch soon.

    Working???????
    Hi Diane03.

Working!? Are you still working? How?

I no longer hike, but I do walk a bunch on flat ground. I feel better upright. I think it just uncompresses stuff and I feel better and can breath easier. On the flip side, it makes sleeping hard.

Spike is an out of control puppy and I love him. As soon as things settle down, we're starting obedience training. He went from 2.5 lb to 5.2 lb. He is not a yapper, but is finding his voice. I feel obliged to see the Chihuahua movie.

Here's how I added you to "My Friends" list: When you post on the "Discussion" board, there is a little character to the right of you name. I just clicked on that and select add. That's it. The only thing is I don't think the mail system worked cuz I don't see the email I sent you. :( I'll try sending this note to you via email, just to see if it was I who messed up. Also, here is my personal email: JAGGEDLNS@yahoo.com

    Sodium bicarbonate
Jag, I've been doing the sodium bicarbonate thing since diagnosis with PC which had metastasized locally. This was 18 months ago. I have to tell you up front that even if I'm cured ( very small chance 2-3% ) it might be because of other treatment options that I have employed. I have done nine weeks of the best radiation therapy available. I have had six (3 month shots of Lupron) and developed a problem but we are working on that (reaction to the drug) In addition to that I am employing baking soda as part of the process. You can find all you need about this on utube and the net.

Does it work? Don't know but the theory behind it has some logic and a lot of that is about the ph balance of the body which I am now sure each of us controls based on what we consume. The theory goes something like this: cancer can't live in an alkaline environment. By taking the aklakline substance, in this case baking soda and mixing it with a sugar ( I use black strap molasses ) and drinking it. Here's what the theory says: just like a pet scan which takes a short half life isotope and is mixed with sugar and injected. The sugar is sucked up faster by cancer but as a highly alkaline substance,( therefore poisonous solution to cancer). This in theory causes apoptosis or the cell death that cancers cells resist. From what I read you need to keep your ph very high for a minimum of five days. I've gone as long as twelve.

Thus far I've got my PSA at undetectable levels and the tumor has shrunk about 2/3. This could be from the radiation and hormone therapy or a combination of my other attacks. I don't know but I'm still here.

Under no circumstances should one put off traditional medicine but adding this on in my case is okay since I've got a very aggressive form of the disease that likely will take me at some point. I also changed my diet and take a lot of different supplements. So if I stay well I really won't be able to say that this or that "cured" me.

Is that how the body works?
"The sugar is sucked up faster by cancer but as a highly alkaline substance,( therefore poisonous solution to cancer)."

I don't know anything about this "treatment," but it doesn't seem like it passes the straight-face test. How is the sodium bicarb supposed to get past the highly acidic environment of the stomach? It doesn't seem like this could logically have much more effect than taking a couple Alka Seltzer and slamming a candy bar.

If that works, count me in!

If it quacks like a duck...
I have to agree with you, Ex - there are no official studies I know of that show sodium bicarbonate has any action on cancer, and some studies that show it can be dangerous.

    sodium bicarbonate
I guess it can be dangerous? Why I don't know? As a kid I used to get the stuff and put it in my mouth just to cause a foam.

I do take alka - seltzer sometimes and have NEVER had any problems with it.

As far as helping cancer - I don't know about that.

I do not have a clue about what it can and can't do for cancer - if anyone finds out that definitely it can help with cancer (please let me know). I will just take a daily dose of alka - seltzer since I like it! :):):)
