    Hello all,

    It is great to see where everyone is from. I was born, raised and continue to live in Toronto, Canada. Just got back from a holiday in Muskoka (which is cottage country in our province of Ontario) Peaceful, beatiful lake and we had the best weather of the summer. Did not once think about cancer!!

    You described Fallbrook well- that's why I live here- it's great (except for traffic on windy Hwy 76 at times!) I've lived in Fallbrook just 6 years & lived closer to the coast in Oceanside prior to that for 12 years. It's amazing what a temperature difference there can be from my former house in Oceanside, just 10.5 miles west of me now and 8 miles from the beach). It's usually a bit warmer here in the summer & a bit cooler in the winter (I'm in Gird Valley, which is a frostzone). We always have beautiful skies, though, and no smog!

    Hey, Lance,

    I'm from Canada - born and raised in London, Ontario Canada. I lived there for 32 years and then moved to Orillia (Lagoon City to be exact) for a year and half, then moved to the USA and have been here for the last 10 years (New Jersey on the Coast)

    Nice to hear from another Canuk.

He will be getting Folfox + Avistan, is that what you are on? We are being positive and we both have a good support system.

    My chemo is Folfox+Avastin. The same as your husband's regiment. Your doc probably will order a medi-port for your husband. It is done by outpatient surgery takes about 45 minutes. Then you will have a training session with the nurse to explain the procedure and possible side effects. The first two chemo are the most difficult ones for me. I think it is because I am nervous. Once you know how it works it will become easier. Make sure you get an emergency number from your doctor. They should provide you a 24 hour call number just in case you have emergency. I have to use it once due to high fever in the middle of the night. I am glad I made that call. It was a deadly staph infection in my medi-port. I was hospitalized for 7 days to pump antibiotics to my blood. I have a new medi port now and it is working very well.
    Relax and drink plenty of fluid. My doctor said that 75% of people response very well to Folfox and Avastin. You husband should be able to handle it.

Daddy and one sister are west side, other sister is in Jax beach, brother is westside I think (he doesn't keep in contact with the family), and nephew and his family are in St. Augustine but work in Jax. Will be down there for Thanksgiving! I was there in the early 80's, married my husband and went traveling from there with the Navy. Daddy was transferred to Jax after my twin and I graduated and they just stayed. His final duty station was the hospital at Beaufort, but he did the geo-bachelor thing. I love St. Augustine beach, spent many a day there as a young woman!

    I also live on the west side of Jacksonville. I have one brother who also lives in Jax Beach. Was just down in St. Augustine several weeks ago with family from Georgia who came to visit. Sorry just now getting back to you. Haven't checked this site for a few days b/c of eye surgery.

    Yes, my husband will be having a medi port put in up around his collar bone before he leaves the hospital. Thankyou for telling me about the 24 hr number, I will make sure that I get one. The Oncologist told us that the regimen he's going on should do well, she said he probably won't have any side effects and if there are some they should be minor. That's good because he's anxious to get back to work. His entire family will be coming down for the surgery and his mother will be staying with me until he gets home from the hospital "so I won't be alone" - but I have two teenagers living in the house - I"m never alone! I will try to get on here maybe on Tuesday and let you all know how things went. We are very optimistic that things will turn out OK.

    What is this have just completed my first Chemo am on day 6 & am pretty weak & flimsey .Have lost 18 lb since my surgery July 23rd 2008,diagnosed for the second time in 5 years.This time its stage 111 ,seem to be fading away.
    The lovely thing is I live in Carlsbad, California.Have the mountains at the back & the ocean at the front.So its not all bad!!!!!

    My kids are married with children ,they are fantastic.Im happily married again ,to a Brit.Just need to get on with the Chemo Battle & slay the Dragon!

    Hey All,

    I'm from the west coast of Canada... Vancouver, BC to be exact :) I live here in the West End, across the street from the beach (English Bay). I am single (no, this is not a personal ad, I love being single ), and live in a one bedroom apartment with my little miniature schnauzer (Bridget) and a multi-handicapped cockatiel (CB). I have a kajillion friends, so my support group is huge, which I count my blessings every day, even on the days when I don't need help. I am super self-sufficient and independent, but one of my most favourite things is spending time with friends.

    Vancouver is considered the banana-belt of Canada... our summers never get too hot (a hot summer would be considered temps in the mid-80Fs) and the winters never to cold (very rarely does the temp dip below 0F). Very little snow, but LOTS of rain... and that rain can be in any month, hence why we are very green all year round. Hey, the city was built in a rainforest.. so one has to expect rain .

    Oh, I do babble on, don't I!?!? It's too bad there wasn't a photo album area here on each board so we could all upload pictures of where we live.

    Hey Kay,

    I live in Cedar Park, TX, so close to Round Rock! I'd love to get together with you sometime to have a mini-palooza.

    I grew up in Alexandria, VA and when I got married we moved to Springfield, VA. Once we had our first daughter we moved to The Woodlands, TX and now we're here in Cedar Park, TX...about 15-20 minutes from Austin, TX.

    I'm so sad I won't be able to make it to Colonpalooza this year, but hope to make it next year.

    Was born and raised in Colorado; however, we have lived between Houston and Galveston, TX for nearly a year now... If anyone is wondering, a hurricane sure takes the mind off of waiting for CT results! I had my CT days before Ike... still waiting on results, but just found out they were finally faxed to my doc yesterday so should know this afternoon.
