5 years ago today I was drinking fleet phosphosoda as a prep for my surgery the next day. I was so scared and so sick from the prep. I was vomiting and had such diarrhea. It probably didn't help that I had a couple of beers as part of my prep. They are clear liquids, aren't they? We had to drive an hour to the hotel where we would spend the night before my surgery. We didn't get to the hotel until midnite because I couldn't leave the bathroom. Well, it has been 5 years since that frightful night. I have come a long way. Sometimes I wondered how I was going to get through it all. But I did. That was the first of my 3 surgeries for my stage 3 rectal cancer. I am a survivor. It was a rough couple of years but I am a stronger person now. I will now wait one year for my next cat scan.

I am writing this to give all the newbies hope. I wanted to hear all the success stories when I was diagnosed.

For all of those still in the fight I am sending positive vibes and prayers.

Thanks to all who have helped me on this site. I couldn't have made it without you.

Maureen --- diagnosed 3/17/03

One year ago June 29th I had a right hemi- colectomy. They took all of my ascending colon and half of the transverse. Because there was no lymph node involvement I didn't require rads or chemo, thank God! I still have a lot of low abdominal pain, gas, frequent BMs. Next week I go for my colonoscopy and pray that it is neg. I have been treated by the Mayo Cllinic and can't praise them enough for the excellent concern and care I have gotten. I would just like to feel like "me" again. I just turned 68. I have not let it get me down. My husband and I have traveled to 11 countries so far in 2008. Some day I'll feel "good" again. The Lord is my strength.
