Dear Friends,
I've had my colon and liver resections May 8 and I'm now home recovering. I was in the hospital 10 days. It was really hard. But I'm glad to be home with my 10 month old baby.
I'm just having pain where they did the liver resection and RFA ablation. Anyone experience with this?
I can't wait to get back on my feet, but it's only been 2 weeks 1/2.....
I will start chemo in about 2 weeks apparently. They will put me on folfox and avastin. I hear we get good results with these treatments.
Anyhow, I thought I would keep you all up to date as last time when I posted the responses were overwelming, and I was very greatful.

Take care,

Christele (36 year old, 10 month old baby, stage IV colon with liver mets)

    Hi Christele,
Welcome home glad to see you back with your family and new baby. I had a colon resection in 9/04. pain will go away soon. I found it was less painful than surgery to remove the tumor. Don't rush yourself and take care of yourself.
    Be well
    Never,ever give up!!!

    Hi,

I agree with Bruce. Rest as much as you can. Did you contact the surgeon about the pain? They should have given you some pain meds. Don't be a hero. If you need something for pain, get it. Being in pain just tires you out more. I know how nice it is to be around your kids after something like this. It made me feel better just hugging and kissing them. All I could think of in the hospital was my 4 kids. HUGS and take it easy. It takes a while to come back from just one surgery let alone 2.

Hi Christele, I had a bowel and liver resection way back in 1993, for stage 4 also. I found the pain from the liver site to be a bit hard to take, but it will certainly get better every day. The lower part of the incision never worried me at all. I was 43 years old at the time and I am NED now for many years. The very best of luck to you.

2 weeks is no time at all....your abdomen gets REALLY cranky about being messed with...Pain is the mechanism your body uses to say "Slow down, danger...you are heading for a problem"...(hummmm...TALKING bowel???? ok, now I'm REALLY frightened...although, after alot of vegies...oh, Too MUCH Info!)

Be easy on your body, love it, care for it...like you are for that dear sweet angel baby!

    Hugs, kathi

Take your time recovering. Rest can do so much for you right now. Snuggle in with your beautiful baby. I pray that your chemo goes well for you. Keep us posted.

Didn't have the same surgery but the pain is not surprising. For the pain after surgery I found that walking was very helpful. I put on my Ipod and pretended I was dancing down the road (in my mind only).
    Enjoy your baby.

    Christel,

I had a liver resection in November 2006. It was very painful. The worst surgery yet! Hang in there.

    Christele,

Welcome to the Semi-Colons! Sorry you are going through all of this right now, but we will always be here for you!!

I had my colon resection and was in the hospital 8 days. When I came home I was virtually pain free, but I did not have liver resection. Take the pain meds as directed and remember to take special care of yourself right now. Do you have help with the baby???

You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

    Hugs,

    Kerry

Wow! Congrats on being back home with your baby.

2.5 weeks is not a long time, so be patient and rest as much as possible. I had a liver resection and found that my pain decreased after 4 weeks. And that's when my real energy began to return. Walking a little bit, everyday, seemed to help.

BUT if you're in pain, perhaps you need to touch base with your doctor. There are a lot of good pain meds out there. Hint: some of them can make you very constipated, so I always took a laxative too.

    Way to go!
