update on lung surgery

I had my lung surgery on Friday. The good news is that they were able to do a wedge resection using VATS. My recovery is going SO much smoother than when I had a lobectomy using traditional surgery about 19 months ago. The bad news is that it is another metastasis. I'm feeling fairly calm. I just want to focus on a swift, uncomplicated recovery from this surgery, then we will do what needs to be done next. My parents flew in for the holidays and I'm basking in having my husband, sons and parents around. Best wishes to you all.

    Tara -

Best wishes for a smooth recovery. You must be doing great if you are already online. Enjoy your holidays with your family, heal a bit every day and next year you can deal with the next steps.

Take care (and take it one step at a time)

I am very glad to hear that your surgery was a success and your recovery time was so much better. I am sure being surrounded by family and loved ones really helped.

I am so sorry to hear about the additional mets. I didn't really unerstand from your post if they were able to get the new met with this surgery or if they found some more while they were in there. Whatever the case, know that you and your family are in my prayers.

Have a wonderful holiday season, Tara.

    Hi Bob,

I only had a solitary lung met, and they were able to get it all out with this surgery. (It was officially a biopsy, but they got good margins just in case). But my understanding is that I will be having more chemo now because presumably there are more of those little guys out there somewhere.
