hey all you awesome semi-colons!

In looking up some info on an alternative treatment used by Steve McQueen (whose cancer was cured by the way--he died after having surgery to remove the dead tumor tissue)(but they--the media-- don't tell you that).

Anyway, the book I pulled out is really a good one for exploring alternative treatment options. I sometimes remember to add it to my book lists I recommend, but often forget.

So I want to just put in a plug for it now.

It's OPTIONS The Alternative Cancer Therapy Book by Richard Walters

It has many different treatments with good overview explanations. In Alternative Medicine there are many options and it can get confusing on what to do or where to turn. This is a good reference.

Just wanted to share that with y'all.

    please add your favorite reference books too. We can get a list going to take to the book store or the library. I know folks often suggest a book but I never write it down.....

    How bout a list of books WE recommend instead of the business moguls? Jose, could you do that on the new CSN site and Rodney, how bout colonpalooza.com when you are done with your school demands. I think the name of the book and why it would help us all would be a great reference list.

    Rodney, I mean this very seriously!!!! I wish and hope to find a way to pay for colonpalooza.com and also pay you for the time you spend on it. You are something boyfriend (sorry I am too old for you or is it that you are too young for me??????? whatever). I bet Sponger has something to say about this.

    My two cents:

    Although I am a strong believer in doing anything I can to help maintain a healthy body and mind, I agree with Greg about the reference site: Quackwatch. I think that it is an invaluable resource for cancer survivors. Here is a link that I have referred to quite often during my journey:

    I suppose I feel that my experience has been difficult enough without some swindler trying to dip into my pocketbook and cash in on my desperation. Although hope is important, I refuse to pay for it. That said, in some instances it is only a matter of time before some alternative methods are eventually accepted into mainstream medicine. I think the important thing is that we investigate and question all sides.

    Barrett failed an exam for board certification in psychiatry and never was certified. Wikipedia has an account of his career, including the certification issue, at:

    this is not what I intended at all.

    Thank you for your input but quackwatch is not exactly on the up and up.

    I was not refering only to alternative treatment books either.

    Does anyone honestly in their hearts of hearts think for one minute that Western Medicine ethics are truly not out for your pocketbook???? It would be naive for any of us to not be wary of ANY practitioner regardless of which side of the fence you fall on.

    Please, enough said on this and let's just focus on compiling a really good resource list of our favorite books.

    I think there is the truth somewhere in between. Being a physician I don't believe there is a vested interest in doing something that doesn't work. If I find something that truly works then I would use it as patients would come beating on the door. That being said, there is alot of ignorance in the medical community regarding the effectiveness of alternative treatments and not alot of time to do research on it. That is why I am trying to go through a number of medical studies that have been done on alternative treatments to see if there is any common agreement as to what seems to work. Unfortunately with the holiday season and spending alot of time before that making a decision on discontinuing the chemo I have not made alot of progress. I hope to after Xmas.

    Emily, I would love to see a place where all the books are listed and the recipes etc. Let me know if something like that gets done. Over the years you have been an inspiration to me and I have gleened all I can from you. I was a B-2, surgery but no chemo, and its been 3 years. I go back in February for a checkup and colonoscopy. Thank you for all you do for us!

    Sorry Greg, but I got a real creepy feeling visting that site. It just smelled like propaganda designed to assasinate any treatment other than the norm.

    My all-time favorite is Dr. Andrew Weil's book Spontaneous Healing. Which Emily also recommended. My other current favorite is A Cancer Battle Plan by Ann Frahm.

    Ying honey,

    You were right the first time. She beat stage IV breast cancer and then 10 years later died of a heart attack most likely caused by her very harsh treatments.

    I'm with you, I love the book.
