Problem with Quillan book

I opened up my copy of Quillan's book determined to keep an open mind. This book bothered me when I got it a few months ago. I know it has helped many people on this board and I am so happy they are doing well. My gripes (to be followed by questions so please read all):

1) To me, the diet is not strict enough. He emphasizes sugar to be avoided but cancer feeds on cholesteral as well and cholesteral only exists in animal foods. The recipes and his supplements contain a lot of animal products and that bothers me. It is a vast improvement over the typical American diet, don't get me wrong. I just think there should be less emphasis on animal proteins.

2) It is an overwhelming read. There are many supplements he recommends for the immune system, for example. Does a cancer patient take them all? Can you mix 'em all up? Which ones and how much? It seems wordy and confusing. I'm tired, discouraged and cynical at this point because of what Mark has been through so maybe I just can't read right now.

3) He pushes his product which costs $100 AND contains Bovine cartilage. My health guru sells nothing, has his program for FREE on his website and only cares about helping people. Anytime a product is involved I get suspicious.

Just want to get that off my chest. In the meantime, for those who have benefited from his words, can you please help clear up my confusion and answer these few questions:

1) What supplements and dosage EXACTLY has anyone used and found relief for:
fatigue
immune system building
appetite
tumor shrinkage
anything else that would be useful for a stage IV rectal cancer patient on chemo for months.

2) Has anyone used his products?

3) Has anyone seen Quillan in person for a consulation? What was the outcome?

4) Has anyone been successful in gaining weight by following Quillan's program?

Thanks so much and Happy Turkey Day!

    Happy thanksgiving to you!

I did not use Quillin's book for dietary help--mine was only for figuring out what supplements to take. I continue to recommend Quillin's book strictly for the info of cancer fighting/curing supplements....vitamins and antioxidants etc. For that I think it's a wealth of knowledge.

It never occured to me to buy his products b/c i seeked the care and advice of a local Naturopathic doctor where I got many of my supplements. She was the one who prescribed the amounts for me.

Otherwise i bought mine from my local coop. (I like to support local).

I am in agreement with you to avoid all animal products when curing cancer.

It's been 5 years since I read it, and at the time of doing all my initial research, his book stuck out to me as a wonderful resource for supplements. I honestly don't even remember his dietary advice since i didn't follow it......as you know I juiced and was a vegan macro at the time.

My focus at the time of taking all those supplements was immune building and balancing an overworked, over stressed, undernourished system that allowed cancer to take hold and grow.

If you want my supplements list I can send you one.

peace, emily who is eating turkey and organic stuffing today!!!

Emily - thanks so much! Please send me the list. It will save me hours of time. I don't take any supplements myself - I quit all after meeting Dr. Ruth Heidrich, breast cancer survivor, athlete, vegan. She, however never had chemo and I'm sure Mark is deficient thanks to that.

Thanks again so much. I am so happy to hear you are well. You are an inspiration to so many and a role model for healthy living.

Like anything else on this subject, we have to take away the parts of the information we get that we can use. It is confusing. I thought some of his information sounded good and some offbeat. I am trying to get together articles that contain studies done on alternative/complementary treatments. Some of the major cancer centers are doing more on it and there are a number of studies done in Europe. I too am wary of expensive supplements. On the other hand, I think there is a clear indication that we need to change our diets.

I share some of your concerns regarding Quillan's book; it is poorly organized, and has little documentation.. I used his supplements for a while, until I discovered that he had changed the ingredients of my formula, and was marketing another without any notice to me..there are two separate marketing companies that market his Product-(s) anyway, without getting into details, there were too many contradictions, and too few answers, so I discontinued his product.

    to you both--

i can only send you a copy snail mail so please email me on this site and give me your home address. I can pop one in the mail.

My list is a compilation of what my Naturopath prescribed and my Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner. There is also some input from a Nutritional consultant.

I look at his book as a resource, but not a bible. The ideas are really good used in conjunction with other regimens. I use the alkaline approach with juicing and supplements. I feel good and I think - or hope - that it is helping me; I know it is (but still worry about cancer returning). If I am not mistaken, you and around LA. If you use a good health food store, you might try to find an alkaline food sheet. It is really interesting. Mine is called "Food Theory For Healthy Living". I think it was only $4.00...Incredible information. There might be things in the Quillin book that bother you, but lots of it is still solid info...He had to write it for a broad audience, so take what you like nd leave the rest. OR, and I have done this, give it a read, take a few things from it and then reread it in a few months and think about a few more...The other thing I would suggest is to allow your intuition to work for you. If you are not liking a lot of animal products, great. There are wonderful alternatives and you can place them in your diet right now. I never thought of buying Quillin's supplements; I guess I thought I could do just as well with my own suppliers here and with brands which I already like. You are open for ideas and for change; that is the most important thing. Take care and as I have said before, Mark is so blessed to have you in his corner. All the best to you - Maura.
