That's right folks. One of a few on this board that "built" this site and what it stands for and means to the rest of us today is celebrating her 5th year of NED tomorrow, which means she is NOW CANCER FREE!!!!!!!

5 years ago tomorrow, she went in for rectal cancer surgery and during the surgery, they realized it had spread to her liver (Stage IV) and resected both. She did a year of chemo (good ole 5FU) and has been clean ever since (if you want to know more, read her personal web page).

Then she joined this board and has been a life line to so many since. I know she is huge to what, who, and where I am today in my survivorship and I could never thank her enough.

Stacy sweetie.....Lisa Rose and I send you our very bestest and warmest "Lisa Sandwich". You know you've gotten one before, but this one is as special as we can make it. AND we will celebrate with you in person next week in Halifax.

Stacy, you are one of my few heroes and I love you and thank you for what you have taught me.

Lisa P.

Well....what do I say to this? I can only offer the following...

We have all seen every part of this monster called cancer. What we gain from this site is the chance to see the HUMAN side of cancer. Cancer in itself is a bad word. It brings tears, anger and fear. Cancer on this site is more than that. It is hope, support, friendship, love, power and laughter. It weeds out the insignificant parts of our lives and shows us the beauty and importance in the simple basic things that life has to offer to us.

This next part will sound really bizarre....
I am glad I got cancer. Stupid, eh? Well, how else would have I gotten to meet all of you (when I say meet, I mean both virtually and realistically, of course!)?!?!? How else could we experience a "Lisa Sandwich," meet Texans who ooze with kindness and hospitality, see SpongeBob in leather, hear about Kathi's naked dance sessions, hold hands with those grieving, or raise glasses with the best of the best? How else would I have gotten the chance to meet judiths and SpongeBob on the Sharon Osbourne show (notice that show got canceled, guys?) How else would I have learned about the importance of juicing, kissing my kids daily, and planning wonderful Palooza trips? How else would I have gotten the chance to meet Greta, Dana & Jose from the CSN site? How on earth would I have learned how to live????????????

So, rather than praise me, I praise ALL OF YOU! You guys are the coolest, funniest, warmest group of people I know, and for that I am ever-thankful!

Bottoms up! (yeah, pun intended, of course!)

    Stacy

    STACE!!

Hey girl! Congratulations on your 5 year! We are the "old folk" around here, huh?

I'm envious about your trip to Halifax. I know you guys will have one rip-roaring time. dang.

I go for my 5 year colonoscopy in November (it's taken this long to get my local surgeon to believe ME that I NEED to get a scope (I would go to Mayo to my regular onc but don't have the $$ this year). So when that's over I will feel better about claiming my FIVE YEAR CANCER FREE status!!!

    Doesn't that ROCK??

I give a toast to you and raise my carrot juice in celebration!

peace, emily who remembers stacy as an incredibly sweet person from the get-go (back in the chatroom days)!! :-)
