    Hi Cherri -

I had oxaliplatin, but never had a metal taste. That said, it is a platinum based drug, and that is a metal, so the metal taste at least makes some sense. I'd ask your oncologist if I were you.

How great to have one treatment behind you!

Congratulations on finishing that first round. As you say, One Down. Yes, I had that metallic taste. As I recall, it lasted a couple of days after each cycle, but then went away. I also had constipation after each cycle -- which suddenly turned to diarrhea, on one dramatic day of each cycle. Took some care in my meal/intake planning! Best of luck with the folfox. It ends.

    Congrats, Cherri!

I didn't do the FolFox regime so I can't comment on metal mouth, but I am glad to know that you are tackling ALL of your dragons and hope you know we're here to support you!

    Cheers

I definitely have the metallic taste for the first 3-5 days. The cold liquids or foods seem to make it worse if I am forgetful and try them during that time. Usually the second week is pretty normal.

I had the metal mouth. Also the first bite of food can bite back so take small bites, even a lick to get used to the sensation. I had forgotton how wonderful food tastes. After chemo, I didn't have a problem gaining back to my original weight. I thought maybe I could stay a size 6. Glad you have round 1 out of the way. Now keep on going, one step at a time. jams

    Hi Cherri:

Whoohoo, one down, there you go. Now that wasn't so bad was it. About constipation - there are two things you can try:

    1. Make good friends with fruits, veggies, bran, tree bark and Milk of Magnesia
    2. Talk to your onc to see if they are giving you Kytril as a nausea drug. Kyril is notoriously associated with constipation. There are other nausea drugs they can try w/ you. I had to get off Kytril myself for the same reason.

    Best of luck to you!

"Metal Mouth." I love that, Bob. So appropriate. So far so good, Cherriann. Guess you've figured out you can get that nasty metal taste. I get it too, just for a while. As for constipation, yep, I take Kytril and had that problem during Round 1 as well. I'll have to talk to my oncs about that, or just try the Compazine they gave me. Thanks JADot! I go in for Round 2 tomorrow! Cheers!
