Many of you know about my friend, Alan.He has been battling with cancer for 7 years. A while ago I told you that he was told to prepare to enter a hospice and that all chance of prolonging his life was lost.He was told there was nothing else that could be done for him!Needless to say Alan pretty much felt helpless as did his wife, Carlene. Emotionally Alan fell into deep depression. He could not walk, talk or eat and was resigned to his fate. When I saw him at that time he told me...quote; "mate...I am done for!"
If you read my posts you will know that I encouraged Alan to talk with my gals at my clinic(counsellors), which he thankfully did. He had never had emotional help in all of his 7 years fighting cancer! I haave also told you that this "talk" lifted his spirits and over the past month or so he has also had the opportunity to enter trials for a new treatment(it was not available until only recently)
The GREAT news......yesterday I went on our motorcycle club's mid-week ride and I was not only shocked but also overjoyed to see Alan there. He never thought he would ride his bike again....remember...he told me he thought his life was over a month back! That is amazing!I walked up to him, hugged him(yes...us guys hugg too) and he told me although he was feeling a little weak he felt well enough and to safely ride his motorbike. All of his other biking friends gathered round him to welcome him back.
No-one knows what is in store for Alan. One minute he is almost off to a palliative car home...the next he is walking,talking,eating...then riding his bike!I am sure that much of his improvement is due to a better emotional state...his wife agrees with me.Remember all, especially our new friends here, that the doctors may help us physically but sometimes emotional counselling can improve our state of mind which must be a benefit to fighting this horrid disease. This story is true and while I know that Alan will be fighting for a long time to come....he is still with us and is doing what he loves to do, ride his bike.An incredible man who had us all with tears in our eyes yesterday!
Believe guys n gals....BELIEVE!

Hi Ross and Jenn. I do believe emotional state of mind helps you. When my dad got home from the hospital after his lung filled he was so depressed. He ate very little and was very weak. He layed on the couch for months and after 2 1/2 months of this he died. I believe his stage of mind took him and it was not the disease itself. I beleive if he was more positive and ate more and walked around and got exercise he could of become stronger and recevied more chemo. He just couldnt take the thought of more chemo so he gave up and passed with months. So please stay positive if you can and if not please get help. Mindy
